  • It might now be 2010 but you still need to be careful with the cancellation policy - very small print, totally incomprehensible, and quite outrageous. My husband closed his small business in April this year - we kept xln unitl october as our home phone was with them as well, and when we tried to cancel they wanted £223! I threatened them with a massive complaint and have now decided we do not need to pay, but how bad is that after having us as business customers and personal customers for over 4 years. Great reward for customer loyalty.
    So read the small print!
    Hi,
Did you get out of paying the fee, 'coz they have tried to slap me with £299 bill if I leave my contract which only has 3 months left at £11.99 per month.

  • Do yourself a favour and leave XLN Telecom. I have been with them for 15 years and they want to slap a £300 bill on me if I cancel my contract which only has 3 months to run at £11.99 per month.

    * * * XLN TELECOM * * *
    Be very careful

This info just received from OFCOM:

"Go through XLN Telecom's complaints procedure. If you are not happy at the end of it. The Ombudsman gets involved at which point XLN Telecom has to pay £500 whether they win or not."

So, you going through the complaints procedure is going to cost XLN £500. What would you do if you were in their shoes? You wouldn't want it to go that far, particularly if there were thousands of complaints.

XLN want me to pay £299 to get out of my contract which is £12.33 per month and has 3 months to run, total £36.99. That's how they treat their customers
  • We too have just had a shock.
    Been with XLN since 2008
had a better offer with a new supplier, they said they would notify XLN.
email just come thru from XLN demanding 358.50 cancellation fee. We thought the contract would have expired by now. didn't know about 'rolling contract'???
Has anyone actually managed to get out of this?
They've given us 4 days to respond. New supplier already has our bank details. I think we are in an expensive mess.
themainman - are you saying be careful geting involved or be careful taking them on? I'm panicking - only a small oneman band and finances are bad enough without this.

Pay them what you owe , less the disputed amount and follow the clearly laid down complaints procedure.Cancel your D/D if its a business one.

What does the original paperwork say did it provide you with a description of the Fixed-Line Telecommunications Service provided when you signed up; the key charges, including minimum contract charges, and any early termination charges, if applicable; payment terms; the existence of any termination right, termination procedures, details if contract rolled etc.

Contracts never just 'expire'. they continue until you give notice.

IS going with XLN a mistake?
    I should say so!!!

We were with XLN up until November 2012 when we moved back to BT.
Today got a letter from CARS who are XLN debt collectors demanding payment of £102.11.

Don't understand why as the last thing we had from XLN was a credit note for £299 at the end of December 2012. We've had no invoices or letters sent by either post or email.

The thing that makes any sense would be if they are STILL charging us for the service as the £102.11 would be roughly the amount due for 3 months service.

We had exactly the same issue with XLN as themainman.
However had given the required notice period and eventually got a credit note for the £299 cancellation charge.

However today we get a demand from their debt collectors CARS saying that we owe £102.11.
I phoned CARS and they say they can't provide us with any details of unpaid invoices, and simply a demand for payment within 10 days.
God knows what for as our contract was cancelled from the end of October 2012, final bill was November 2012 and credit note came in December 2012.

I reckon that they still have our contract running as the £102.11 is roughly 3 months line rental. Checked their online contract and it states that "You will be notified of any problems with your payments or direct debit instruction" but they haven't been in contact either by phone, post or email. So as far as I can see even if we do owe them some money then they are in breach of this clause in their contract?

I'm tempted to let them take us to court and see what happens?

By all means let them. Of course they could be writing to an incorrect address because you may have moved, but that's a different issue. The only service they appear to provide is back office ones. They are primarily a re seller and billing outfit, not an ent-to-end telecoms solution.

    Hi all,

I have BT as my main phone and broadband provider and have had nothing but trouble with them for the past two years. Breaks in service, being cut off in error and taking 10 days to get re-connected, £500 being taken from my account when I moved my line upstairs (rather than amending the account details, they terminated the account and then took all of this money to settle the remainder of the account term).

Today I called BT, got cut off first time, was promised a call back within 5 minutes, 3 hours later I had to call them only to be told that we are BT, we are market leaders and we will not move on price or service.

All of this above and much more have driven me to look elsewhere. I have come across the XLN telecoms £24.95 per month offer, which is half of my BT monthly commitment.

XLN are offering unlimited BB usage, line rental, unlimited landline calls and free Router. All seems good

Can anyone tell me if they deliver what they actually say they will. What is there customer service like and is the BB speed ok?

I really would appreciate your views as I don't want to leap from the pan to the fire.

    Thanks

    Mike
