  • So glad that we are starting a new month. Lets just say that August was a bit of a white wash. I haven't bothered to post my monthly outgoings as I'm afraid to say I lost track by the last week. Most things were within budget other than the entertainment spend which I think was around £600 over and the petrol which was about £100 over. This month we have a family 50th and a wedding one weekend and DSS2s 18th birthday so I'm expecting a bit of a shocker again but I hope to remain a little more in control than August.

I did manage to meet my target of £3000 which has put my savings at £119,400 but have a hefty credit card bill to pay off in September so the real outcome of my spend won't be evident until the end of this month.

We've had the results back from DH's blood tests and they have confirmed that he has a form of leukemia called chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Although this is not what we wanted to hear it's good to get the diagnosis through. The good news is, if you can call it that, is that it is the least serious of the different types it could have been and that DH is young to get it as it normally occurs in the over 60's which means he will be stronger at coping with it. The down side of this means that he has been taken off the urgent list and it will take up to 18 weeks to get an appointment with the hematologist for a treatment plan!

I am not going to dwell on this as there is nothing I can do to change the situation. I'm a pragmatic person and will deal with things as and when they come up.

I have a busy day to day - uniform and school bits to buy mainly and dental appointments for all the kids. Lastminutedotcom is not normally my style :(

Glad you have got the diagnosis rather than the 'not knowing' feeling. I wish your DH all the best for the treatment ahead and also thoughts are with you to be strong to support him.

  • Hi PFTP

Have just caught up with your diary.

I echo what has been said already and it's better that you have the diagnosis and not waiting around. Please ban your DH from Dr Google - it's hard, but it really doesn't do you any good.

Sending big (((hugs))) to you. Take Care. xxx

Best wishes to you and DH.

I agree, it is a relief to get a diagnosis

It's a chance to read up on things, and I'd suggest not reading too much on the Internet, as people tend to post negative experiences....try from some more positive reading too, from books and support groups and charities.

I've got a bit of a health thing at present, and I've had to step away from Google, as it was freaking me out too much!

Hope things progress as well as possible

I posted before I noticed your post, but I said exactly the same about Google!

  • Hello,

Very sorry about the bad news, but as you say, dwelling on it won't change anything, you are so right to keep on as normally as possible. Despite that, it must be incredibly hard to cope with for you both and I wish you the very best,

  • Thank you so much everyone for your support - it's amazing how an online community can really help when times are tough. It has really bucked me up reading all your posts :) I totally agree on the google front. DH has been in contact with some of the cancer charities which I think has helped him.

I've decided that for September I'm taking a break from my budgeting accounts. That doesn't mean I'm not keeping a mental note of what I'm spending this month just not recording it all. I have lightened up on my food budget mainly because I'm just so busy at the moment that I don't have the time or energy to go round and check the best bargains. I'm not buying anything extravagant but I did find it quite stressful trying to stick within such a strict budget. Saying that today I'm am batch cooking about 3 kilos of chili

I have gone from being a lady of leisure to someone who is in massive demand for her cleaning services. I have limited myself to 4 days a week - 3 days with one friend and 1 day with my hoarder friend. In addition to that I also bring home ironing. On my spare day I try and get on top of everything at home and make sure I spend some quality time with DH. I would rather just do the 3 days but given that DH isn't working at the moment I really need to bring in all the extra money that I can whilst I can.

Spend on the kids went through the roof this week. I think the uniform and bits came in at just over £400 and then I had to pay for DS's programming course which was £1200. My savings target for September was £2000 but I don't think I will be hitting that.

My main aim for today is to get myself organised. I need to write up a schedule of what jobs I need to do each day in order to keep on top of things. I also need to get on top of my admin (my in box in horrendous) and cook that chilli.

Have a great sunday peeps and again thank you all for the support
