Well done finding a better deal with the gas and electric, it is very hard to understand the tariffs and how they calculate their bills sometimes but always good to get a better deal and continue monitoring it. Getting yourself back in credit is amazing too as the prices continue to rise and make that so difficult to achieve on times. Over the year that is going to be a good savings meaning it can go elsewhere to either give you more in one of the other budgets or towards your savings pot.

Thanks DB -with the weather like this I'm not sure I'll be saving anything I succumbed to putting the heating on for a couple of hours yesterday

  • Happy Anniversay - sorry it's late! I hope you are sleeping better? I used to sleep like a log 7-8 hours a night or I was soooo grumpy. After children I'm such a light sleeper and I'm constantly listening out for them. I don't think I'll ever sleep like that again, I miss it. :-)

  • Yesterday was not a good day :(
    • dd still wants me to me go and get her from France as she is still really upset.
    • SS2 was rushed into hospital in Australia where he is on holiday with his mum wirh chronic gastric flu which causes serious problems because he has diabetes type 1- currently on a drip to rehydrate him and replace his sugars
    • DH has been under the weather for a couple of months and has swollen lymph glands in his neck. He finally went to the doctors yesterday. The doctor sent him off for blood tests and then called him back in . His white blood count is very high and he suspects leukimia. We are now going through the painful process of waiting for an appointment with a hematologist for further tests to confirm the diagnosis.

  • Off to the Lake District for a couple of days to get away and have a break. SS2 is out of hospital and DD has agreed to stay in France. I told her that DH wasn't well but nothing more and have contacted her dad to explain the situation so I'm feeling a little less worried about her.

At the moment my money saving efforts are in the background. I'm going to use the money I have earned for my cleaning to take DH away but I will keep an eye on what we are spending.

    Enjoy the weekend

I hope the Lake district will help you both relax somewhat whilst you are waiting for the further appointments and results for DH.

You are right to prioritise differently at the moment and put saving on a back burner.

My thoughts are with you and your family at this time and sincerely hope the wait is not too long and the news will be good and that the Doctor's initial thoughts are wrong.

Seconded - but if there is any good news in all of this it's that your DH's doctor was so on the ball.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • Thank you all for your kind words - we had a lovely time in the Lake District, just what we needed. We're still waiting for the appointment for the blood tests but hoping to hear very soon. DH has been very tired and quite down - scouring the internet for information hasn't helped. I spoke to a friend who was a doctor and he assured me that there were many other things that it could be besides leukemia and even if it was most of them are manageable.

Not such a MS week last week but worth every penny. The cost of our weekend away was £413 of which £80 was petrol and another £110 was accommodation. The rest went on food and wine

We treated ourselves to a rare takeaway last night as it was our last supper before the kids come back. £36 for two mains, two naans and a rice - no wonder takeaways are such a rarity for us.

I've had the heating on a couple of times this week as our house is so cold - it's warmer out than in. I'm hoping that we may get some nicer weather in September as I'm totally fed up with this rain.

not much to report on the money saving front. I've earned enough to cover the cost of the trip away and the takeaway so it looks like I'm going to be on target with my savings this month. I will be taking the hit mostly next month as the hotel and meal went on the credit card.

    Off cleaning today
