What would you buy if you had the money?

Depends how much. Buy to let would be my first choice, but the wife would have a new kitchen.
Might have to take 2 weeks off next summer and do it.0 -
An extension or loft conversion.0

Wardrobes, a holiday, a car, and a steam cleaner/hoover for carpets!0

Depends how much, but if it was over about £20,000, I wouldn't actually spend it on a specific thing, but retire now, rather than waiting a few more yearsEarly retired - 18th December 2014

A walk around the supermarket throwing whatever I wanted in the trolley without worrying about whether I could afford it all once at checkout.
If a bit more, to take the boys to Disneyland Paris again and if some was left over, a trip to Athens for me.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Honestly it sounds SO boring, but I'd pay off the last bit of my debt and put anything extra into savings. I'm not a materialistic person so I don't get a thrill from a new bag or new sofa. I'd just like like to be able to save and not owe anyone anything! Some times you have to hold back to go forward to where you want to be.

A sewing machine, and some lessons so I knew what to do with it. Could probably afford the sewing machine at a push, what I can't afford right now is the extension I'd need so there'd be somewhere to put it.0

I've kind of been in this situation as I inherited close to 80k from a distant relative two years ago. As boring as it sounds, we paid 60k off our mortgage, spent 9k on a car and have kept the rest for home improvements (new door, bathroom, bits and pieces to the garden). It has given us security and given us the prospect of being mortgage free in a couple of years. We now see this as our goal as it will allow us to save more into our pensions and god willing, have time at home when we have children.Mortgage free wannabeMortgage (November 2010) £135,850Mortgage (November 2020) £4,7840

LOL, at the moment I'm more or less working to top up my savings. About £20,000 would put me in a position where I'd be in about 2 -3 years.
If it was £200,000 I'd retire like a shot and have a far more luxurious retirement than the one I'm planning!Early retired - 18th December 2014
