Can you wear black to a wedding?

That's fair enough, I admit I didn't read the full 17 pages, so my comment was probably unfair. I just didn't like the response to Lifeforms who I think meant well and I don't think deserve a 'You think a stranger telling me to fix my self worth is helpful?' when she had actually provided some useful suggestions. Just seemed a very defensive response to me.0 -

I've worn it for two more weddings since, as at the second wedding, OH and I were the only guests present who'd attended the first, and at the third wedding, as I was the only guest present from either of the first two.
I was tempted I admit.
However I do feel this has been quite an eye opener for me and I am very surprised at how difficult it was to find something dressy that suited.
I think perhaps this has helped enforce my desire to look better so that's another reason I didn't want to spend. I'm hopeful this will be the last time I will be this size.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I didn't imply that aliasojo had an issue with her weight, but an issue with people mentioning it because I thought there was nothing ontowards in lifeform post yet aliasojo responded quite defensively.
I do think that 16 pages to discuss what to wear at a wedding is a bit odd but I suppose some people are more concerned about some things than others.
If you were conversing about clothing and what suited you particularly and what didn't....and a total stranger decided to get involved only to get more personal and give you their unasked for views on how you should feel or what you should do about your weight, would you be pleased?
It's the height of rudeness to do something like that.
I wasn't defensive. I was angry. There's a difference.
Anyway done now, let's just move on.Herman - MP for all!0 -

My mother has clothes ranging from size 8 (a few) to size 18. She has an awful lot more in smaller sizes, because when she's larger, she doesn't want to waste the money when she won't be that size for long, she says.
She was 12-14 for years, but lost a lot of weight over the last year through a decidedly undesirable diet plan, chemotherapy. She's now size 8, and that's a lot too thin for her, as she's 5 ft 8 and quite a large bone structure....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
So...shoes. Who's the plank that said shoe shopping was good? (Stand up daisy!)
I've had a nightmare of a day. Yet again, things don't fit. I've discovered that years of wearing crocs and fake Uggs have meant my feet have kinda spread. (Don't you all be imagining big flipper things now. :rotfl:)
I never used to have wide feet but they are now. Obviously the excess weight doesn't help either.
There was little choice in the colour I needed.
I ended up buying 2 pairs of shoes and 1 pair of ankle boots (after making sure they can be returned) and not one of them fit properly. To be fair though I'd been on my feet all day so I'll try them again later/tomorrow and see what's the least of the evils.
Dressy shoe shopping is soooo not fun. I did see loads of casual shoes I'd have loved though. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0 -
Delighted you've found something - I totally sympathised with you but didn't post before as had nothing useful to contribute, as clothes and shoe shopping are my worst nightmare.
I do think some people are more gifted in knowing what suits them than others, regardless of size.
I have a very small capsule wardrobe and when I accidently find something that really suits me, I buy several of them so really wear the same 2-3 outfits all season, but at least I like what I wear since I have been doing this.
I have one very smart outfit, purely down to a friend with a gift for clothes buying who took me shopping for my own wedding (no it's not a long white frock:rotfl:) I plan for this to last at least 5 years which is an enormous relief to have something I feel great in to hand and not have to think about it again for the rare events I will need it. And each time I wear it, I think 'kerching' that's the vast cost of this outfit reduced again:D.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Hope you find some shoes btw - shoe shopping has to be the best type of shopping!
shoes don't care if you're having a fat day!
That's why I like shoe shopping. I'm big in them too, but there's no stigma attached to it like there is to being a size 20+ in clothes.So...shoes. Who's the plank that said shoe shopping was good? (Stand up daisy!)

Oh dear! At least with shoes though there's a lot more choice of shops, as even skinny clothes shops often do a big range of shoes.
Do you have a Brantano near you? I keep going in there and seeing loads of nice shoes, but they're wide fitting and my feet are narrow.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
AND........you would not believe how hard it is to get navy tights. Apparently 'there is no call' for them. You can order them online but not buy instore unless you wanted thick winter ones/opaque ones.Herman - MP for all!0

I don't think I've worn navy tights since the age of 16, when I took off my school uniform for the last time!
So I don't call for them (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Have you tried Asda for tights? I find that they fit a lot better than other shops, and I'm sure I've seen navy ones there. I have a fair few pairs of navy ones and they'd have come from there or BHS.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
