Ooooh a personal shopper, that's posh.
I'll give that one some thought, it seems a bit weird asking someone else to give me clothes to try on. :rotfl:
I suspect I'd not be very relaxed and would spend the whole time trying to suck my belly in and hide my bum against the wall and trying to pretend I'm a size smaller than I am....which of course would be no point as I'd be busted as soon as I couldn't fit into whatever she brought me. :rotfl:
I will mull it over though.
It is so discrete. You discuss the occasion you are buying for. Colours and styles you think suit you. You then walk around the store together looking at things you might pick out yourself. You go back to their luxurious changing room and try a few things on while the personal shopper goes around the store choosing a few more items. They stay outside the changing room. You open up the curtain or door, they discuss the item with you. If it is that dreadful you take it off and try the next thing on until you have something on that you would be happy to discuss with her, be that it is really not what you want, or unsure, or love it.
You have a long period of time dedicated you to. It really is worth your while giving it a go.0 -
That's the kind of thing I was looking at but the Spanx versions were quite pricey.
I wonder what difference there is in the material.
It might be the difference between using balsa wood or solid oak to build a doorway.
It is a very strong pull in material. Because it does not go between your legs or under your arms I was amazed how it didn't make me sweat.
It tubes you in, smooths down any muffin tops and C-section sags.
I felt positively slim in it0 -

I would stongly recommend trying before buying!
It's very expensive and you may not get on with it. I personally hate it. It gets rid of some bulges but can make your shape look really odd because of it (making you larger in other areas where you're naturally slimmer). And also, it makes you very "hard" to touch. E.g. if someone put their arm round you, they'd be able to feel it. Not a good effect in my opinion.
The last wedding I went to, I spent £22 on a spanx body contour thing and ended up taking it off 5 minutes before we left becuase it just didn't feel like me at all."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Definitely wear black, especially if you are comfortable in it but you can always brighten it up with a wrap/ pashmina, shoes or bag - even if those are still in a darker colour that you feel comfortable in. The only wedding faux pas you can make as a guest is if you go in pure white/ ivory ( in my opinion)
Have you got a budget?
I wore a black dress with cream and red detailing, and teamed it with a red shawl/wrap thing and fascinator.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I wouldn't wear black.
You risk standing out for the wrong reasons. I wear loads of monsoon jersey dresses. For all the reasons peoe above have said.
Personally, I wouldn't wear control underwear either. If you aren't used to them/they don't fit perfectly they make you a funny shape and can be uncomfortable. The most important thing is that you are confortable. I know it might not feel like it now, but really it is.. A really well fitting bra, and well fitting full slip or half slip and cami are going to be as flattering in all likely hood and leave you smiling. I also recommend nice knickers, which will keep you smiling knowing you feel attractively attired underneath as well as ontop of your outfit, and maybe a little flirtatious with your oh.

Where is Gok when you want him girlfriends? He'd be the one to take shopping.
One of the good things about Marisota et al, you can send them back, until you find something that you really like.0 -
I would wear black, but then most of my friends are of an "alternative" fashion anyway so i wouldn't be the only one.
I have this dress http://images.esellerpro.com/2516/I/343/5/stock_hellbunny_5100_all_ss1.jpg (in black), i'd probably team it with a coloured cardie and accessories

These dresses are similar to ones we used to wear as teenagers to the record hops...0

I've just taken a complete outfit to the charity shops that was worn once from brand new.
I am a size 22 at 5ft6 and wore a cream jacket and a sleevless dress from roman originals that was multi coloured and long to above ankles. I hate showing my arms so stayed in the jacket all day. Teamed it with a fascinator
It was a nightmare trying to find the right style for me as most of the jackets l were cropped or bolero shaped which made me look like a sack of potatoes. The woman who was supposedly helping me was very rude and told me that I had to forget about longer jackets as there were none, tough basically. I nearly had to go the Ann balon route but could not justify spending the prices.
I'm afraid I did not enjoy it one bitfor a whole host of reasons
