How about something like this with a shrug or something

Thats a lovely dress, I have something similar but its floral and was a second hand oxfam bargain and I wore it when I was much heavier than I am now0 -
I wouldnt suggest in a million years that you were a pig. Ive struggled with my weight for a long time and was called fat repeatedly by two ex partners even when I wasnt, at the time I was just over 9 stones, which Im certainly not now
I also know what its like to go through tough times and gain weight as a result, 2012 was pretty much a total write off for me and mine
However as someone who also teaches fitness classes, Ive seen people twice my size in classes and people who have successfully lost weight through exercise and clean eating
It doesnt need to be a "diet", just taking care of yourself and thats hard to do when you have other stuff going on, I know how hard that is, Ive been there on more than one occasion.
Pauline, I know you mean well, but trust me that all overweight people have heard of the concept of losing weight. Its not a new idea you need to inform them of.0 -

Just reminded me, this was my life safer at a recent wedding, it literally smoothed everything out and sucked everything in.
That's the kind of thing I was looking at but the Spanx versions were quite pricey.
I wonder what difference there is in the material.
It might be the difference between using balsa wood or solid oak to build a doorway.Herman - MP for all!0 -

I wasnt actually trying to inform anyone of anything.
Someone posted earlier in the thread that the OP might feel better if she lost a few pounds, I wasnt the first person to say anything regarding weight. In fact the entire thread started off with the OP saying she was fat, something I wouldnt call another person (although I appreciate that people do call themselves fat, Ive referred to myself as that often enough)
And Im not sure why you needed to pick me up on what I said. Ive made it clear that Im overweight myself and I know how hard it is to get weight off.
I was actually trying to give the OP a bit of encouragement, not inform them of anything and I appreciate we can all view posts differently, but Im really not sure why you had to single out my post for attention
OP, I hope you find the dress of your dreams and enjoy the wedding, if Ive offended anyone with my comments, it honestly wasnt meant.0 -

Spanx are made out of a stretchy fabric that's more like tights.
I'm a recent convert, I used to have some 'up to your bra' pants in a silky fabric from M&S but I find Spanx much more comfortable, especially in hot weather, they seem to 'breathe' more and don't cut you in half. They're easier to get on and off too!0 -
Personally I don't think black is appropriate and there are plenty of other colours which you could wear. Hope you get something that suitsLost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Personally I'd go for a floral print, e.g.:

PS I wore turquoise to my own wedding...0 -
if we lived n a different era we would be corsetted. I hat spanx, they roll up they roll down. i have a Merry widow if I really want to make myself miserable, so being a cunning dressmaker, a little sem let out here and a stitch there I can alter most things.
I love the formal maxi dresses, not the lightweight ones you wear for casual days. The Monsoon dress looks lovely and I would wear that with a chiffon shrug. What is the different between a maxi and a long dress? Each to their own. In fact I am sitting here in a maxi dress, but I would not wear this one to a wedding, I will wear it to my sewing group though. Horses for Courses.0 -

Women weren't supposed to wear red either, it was apparently a way of signalling that you were the groom's secret mistress!
:rotfl:
I wanted to wear a dark-ish red top to my cousin's upcoming wedding. Oh dear!
OP like you I am looking for clothes to wear for a wedding, and I've seen a lot of lovely dresses and skirts in black, but have thought to myself black's not really a good colour to wear for a wedding?
I don't want to wear blue, because my mum's wearing navy.
Green suits me, but I seem to remember the family are a bit superstitious about the colour green!
And now I find out that red means you were the groom's secret lover :rotfl::rotfl:The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0 -
Now see...I usually avoid jersey like the plague because it's clingy.
Will check out the brand though.
It really depends on the fabric...thin, flimsy and/or badly cut jersey fabric does cling in all the wrong places and not do us any favors, but a thicker jersey material with a good cut can work wonders - I have had so many compliments with regards to some of my jersey outfits. The trick is to find something fitted that skims, rather than clings. Wearing something baggy just tends to make you look bigger than you are!0
