Bless you!
I suspect my left leg is a size 14. :rotfl:
Ok I'm exaggerating a tad but it's been a long while since I was a size 14.
I'm fat. At one point I was a size 24. I know everyone tells you that black is more slimming, but I think at this size its the opposite. Personally, I think prints are more slimming as they break you up a bit, rather than one large area of colour. Maybe try some different things on, things you wouldn't normally consider.
Hope you get something.0 -

Hadn't thought of it like that tbh. Just proves another take on things can be useful.
Will try to get a day in town soon to see if I can try some things on and I'll give things a go I wouldn't normally consider.
Thanks.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I'd wear black trousers, probably a black top too but i'd wear a jade green or cerise jacket over it just to brighten the outfit up.
I look good in jade green and cerise:)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you wear dark colours all the time anyway, I doubt the couple will find it offensive that you're wearing a colour traditionally associated with mourning. However I would wear bright accessories to break up the black and make it obvious that I'm going to a wedding, not a funeral!
I don't see the issue with black trousers at all. Black trousers are dressy, and teamed with a bright top/jacket would look fine.
Just to be safe you could wear a patterned black dress? I guess navy and burgundy are more the kind of colours you see in winter which is a shame.0 -
I have a wardrobe full of black trousers and tops, and every colour of linen jacket that M&S have ever made. It is a take you anywhere outfit. Team the jacket colour with bag and fascinator and you have a wedding outfit.
If you want to push the boat out you should look at the Ann Balon dresses on Ebay. They flatter every size and look amazing on, they sell like hot cakes too so buy and sell it on (maybe even at a profit!!)0 -
I don't know if you have a store called Klass anywhere near you, they have some lovely clothing for us larger ladies. There is a website but I have always found more choice in the shops.
I don't know what size you are so I do hope I don't offend you , but I have seen this dress on http://www.bonmarche.co.uk/dresses/plus-size-2-in-1-dress-and-cardigan/invt/03451111/&bklist=icat,4,shop,shopbyproduct,dresses&bklist =icat,4,shop,shopbyproduct,dresses and it is really flattering. I also shop in George at Asda and Matalan. Fortunately there is far more choice nowadays for plus size ladies.0 -

She does add the most amazing accessories though; bright, chunky jewellery, unusual bags and really 'dressy' hair combs.
She looks magnificent - like a ship in full sail.

Enablers the lot of you..I went to Marisota and Classic Detail and just spent £155.00 not very money saving of me, but what the heck. We are going to a Black Tie Dinner Dance in October, so a girl needs something special. I have a stash of fabric and was going to make myself a dress from the Dupion silk I have, BUT..
Now I have bought, a jersey and lace maxi in burgundy, a lovely sequinned shrug/top in purple and a camisole in purple, these last items can be teamed with a crystal pleated evening skirt I have. The Hobbit thinks I am sending something back, how silly is he?
Now I will have to start saving all over again for my new car. Not to worry...0 -
I think black can look lovely, especially if it is teemed with colourful accessories. Add splashes of bright colour in the shoes you wear, jewellery, maybe a fancy scarf or pashmina and you could look very glam. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

The last wedding I was at, I wore a long dark burgundy dress and a floor length black velvet coat. (I was the bride!)
I think you should wear whatever makes you feel comfy as you don't want to be breathing in or be sorting a wedgie all day when you could be enjoying the wedding. I suggest trying stuff on. Sometimes you can be surprised at what suits you.
I like this dress which gilly posted.0
