Can you wear black to a wedding?

I'm a "larger" size (22/24) but IMO it's no excuse not to be able to look good and/or wear colour. Much more important is the style and fit of the outfit...one of my personal favs is a brand called Kaliko. I can't get into all of their outfits, but the stretchy/jersey ones are fab and are so well cut that they are actually really, really flattering.
Wrap dresses in general can also be very flattering - me I like to keep my arms covered and have something that doesn't draw too much attention to my stomach/bum, etc. Don't shy away from colour - find a colour that suits, in an outfit that flatters and you'll feel a million dollars.

Appreciate all the help everyone, will check out all the links properly shortly.
One other thing...is there a 'usual' with regard to dress length. (Probably over thinking things here again.)
I clearly wont be going with a minibut not sure if long/maxi things are frowned upon as the bridal party will be wearing long dresses?

any length is fine - maxi dresses are in at the moment so there are lots of those bought specifically for weddings.

Now see...I usually avoid jersey like the plague because it's clingy.
Will check out the brand though.Herman - MP for all!0 -
This looks flattering, very 'flowy' and draped.

This one is gorgeous, very flattering but annoyingly out of stock online, might still be in some of the shops though:

Maxi is fine as long as it doesn't have a train! As balletshoes says, they're very 'in' at the moment, at the weddings I've been to this summer at least half the female guests are in maxi length dresses.0 -

Tunics cab be worn with black tights or leggings and are also popular - so don't rule out a shorter length you can wear tights under.0 -

Hence the more recent association with black and mourning
That's absolutely untrue!
Regency mourning was black - Jane Austen wrote about it in a letter to her sister. In the early modern period, mourning was black, apart from royalty, who wore dark blue instead. White could sometimes signify mourning, but hte basic colour was black, never green....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
The last few weddings I've been to there have been a few maxi-dresses. Personally I think they look bloody awful - fine if you're on the beach but they're just not wedding-wear. But I do appreciate that's just my opinion and clearly no-one agrees with me0
