That was really weird when I saw my boy friend scraping fork to his teeth. Eeeuu0

I should be thankful for this thread as this is the difficulty most couples of modern times are facing.
You may feed him like a baby for some time and he will gradually learn how to eat gracefully. Or you may ask him to join some etiquette classes and he might realize himself the importance of grooming. You may accompany him if you wish to. Someone else grooming him would be less hurtful.0 -
Eating habits are fairly entrenched and difficult to change. You can't really nag him into changing - it won't work. You've got two choices - 1) put up with it or 2) tell him his eating habits revolt you and you won't go out for a meal nor eat together at home unless they improve. By changing your behaviour, the aim is that his changes in response.

Isnt it funny how these things seem to grate more with women ?
myself included (mum was the same with dad).
Its so annoying when they are chomping in your ear !0 -
I mentioned my brother in law's feral feeding to his mother, asking her if she had any idea why he does it.
It seems as a child his dad had a rule that he couldn't go back to playing until he'd finished his dinner. He developed the habit then, the quicker he got the food down his neck the sooner he was allowed leave the table and go back to his friends and play.
In contrast to that I was never allowed to leave the table until everyone had finished so no incentive to rush and as a result I have good table manners and he's an embarrassment. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
My mum left someone due to his eating habits. He was a lovely bloke and a millionaire but she just couldnt live with it and he wouldnt admit to it/change itComping Since Sept2013Wins so far - Chips, Billy the lion.:j Thanks to all Comping OPs :j:beer:0

I have a simlar problem, i know i eat too fast and too much at a time, but i've just been unable to change it, no matter how hard i try0

I can't abide bad table manners. It would be incredibly difficult for me to have a relationship with someone who's eating habits were disgusting. Sorry if that makes me sound shallow! The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

I love my future husband to bits but his eating habits leave a bit to be desired he shovels his food in
ive never seen anyone try to get so much on a fork in my life  how can i tell him without hurting his feelings, i have tried saying it in a jokey way but he hasn't taken the hint, it's just not nice to watch
and i really want to be able to enjoy a nice meal with him rather than trying to avert my eyes.
Buy him a trough

Ha ha, this made me laugh! My hubby is a noisy eater who eats off his knife and, if he's really enjoyed his meal, will lick his plate:eek::eek:PenguinOfDeath wrote: »My OH eats some food off his knife, I was always told to NEVER put your knife in your mouth, it horrified me at first!
Now the habit sometimes rubs off on me (only at home though...)
I've told him umpteen times over the years about it, to no avail, but on one occasion when we had our grandsons for a meal, and hubby licked his plate, 4yo just said in amazement 'What are you doing granddad?' which brought him up sharp as he didn't even know he'd done it!
It hasn't stopped him though, now he offers to collect the plates and take them to the kitchen, where he can have a good (private) licking session!"It is always the best policy to speak the truth-unless, of course, you are an exceptionally good liar." - Jerome K Jerome0
