I love my future husband to bits but his eating habits leave a bit to be desired he shovels his food in
ive never seen anyone try to get so much on a fork in my life  how can i tell him without hurting his feelings, i have tried saying it in a jokey way but he hasn't taken the hint, it's just not nice to watch
and i really want to be able to enjoy a nice meal with him rather than trying to avert my eyes.

You could try swapping his knife and fork for chopsticks. That should slow him down a bit.
Although, based on some of the Chinese I have been been unfortunate enough to witness eating, the spectacle may not be any less revolting.0 -
It might be just how he eats, dont really think its that big an issue, but i guess it is for the OP. Id be thankful if that was the only thing

My OH shovels and eats like it's his last meal, but has improved.
I just told him it wasn't going to grow legs and run away. I also ate really slowly so he had to wait ages for his pudding and told him if he hadn't shovelled, he wouldn't have to wait so long.
Just be honest and tell him he eats like a pig and it's a turn off.
You could always video him!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I'd be honest with him. It may be that no-one has really bothered to teach him how to eat properly when he was a child. It's not just you that it will affect btw, think about when he goes out to meals with work colleagues or to formal events. You have to take the line that you care about him and this is why you're telling him this, not to embarrass him but to help him with a problem that he may not have realised he had. Joking about it just becomes irritating after a while, then it gets labelled nagging.Val.0

People who trough their food, and noisy eaters are one of my pet hates. Hubby actually inhales his dinner, and eats with his mouth open, but I don't even notice it anymore - I guess love is blind!0

Ummmmm.... guilty!!

OH actually told me on Saturday that watching me eating was 'gross'! Told him I couldn't help it coz I was hungry!
My eating is a recurring topic of convo with me an OH though, mainly coz I eat too fast and eat too much. Trying to eat smaller portions and slower, but it's a work in progress. But I do need OH to keep on at me coz I do forget myself occasionally!!Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0 -

My O/H talks with his mouth full. Love must indeed be blind...!0 -
My daughter pointed out to me that I shovel in more food before I've swallowed the previous mouthful. I hadn't even noticed! It's just the way I eat and it's very likely the same with your hubby to be. I'd suggest you ca' canny as we say up here and try not to embarrass him. Try and say it in a ligh-hearted jokey way if you really must say something. And lead by example so your good table manners might rub off on him.
I think I got into the habit of shovelling when the kids were wee so I could get at least some food down me before they demanded their next meal!0 -
My OH started to make noises like a pig for a while (change in body weight) and I told him what is he doing and when we go to a restaurant can he please control himself.
He never knew. His pet hate is my brother's in law eating habits and the thought that people want to be sick (like he does) when they watch/hear somebody with disgusting eating habits react like that to him had meant that he watches himself constantly.
While I realise it was because of his change in weight, if it can be controled I am not accepting any excuses.
It is the most off putting thing in the world and it makes one look like a neaderthal man.
Also shoveling food in quickly has detrimental effect on your diet and your feeling after the meal.
Aparently your brain sends signals you are eating only 15 mins after you started, so you might eat too much and then feel heavy afterwards and generaly stretch your stomach.
It is not going to make you feel unhungry any faster.0 -
My brother in law eats like a pig and nobody knows why. If a meal is served in serving dishes he will also pile his plate with about four portions!!
We went to them for a BBQ at the weekend and every time he shoveled some in off his plate he reached out and replaced it from the the dishes on the table.
It's almost as if he turns feral when food is around and yet he's never gone hungry or had his meals snatched from under his nose! One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
