no pay rise for 5 years

I have always worked for large organisations such as University or NHS where you were on a pay scale where you automatically went up a grade with a higher salary each year. There was also a cost of living rise as well.
I was last in paid employment in 2004 which was before the recession started biting.
I would be interested to hear from people who have similar roles as to whether things have changed in the last 9 years.0 -
Of course you can. You could negotiate for a percentage rise on all pay points.
I really do doubt it as the company will just say 'sorry no pay rise for you'##We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The person I was talking about never got another job. You can tell the company you are going to leave but how funny would it be when you don't and still get no pay rise.
i think it would be better to say you will have to start looking at other job opportunities rather than straight out saying you are going to leaveSeriously to bale of this now you should count yourself lucky you have a job regardless of pay rise or no pay rise
others have told me to change job to get a pay rise so theres plenty of jobs out there apparentlyNo one can really love a job that much if the lack of a pay rise is making you post on here about it.
maybe posting here shows i really do love the job that much0 -
in one part of the letter they say there is no money in the kitty for pay rises and later say that recruitment levels show they are paying enough
so they seem to be saying theres not enough money for a payrise but if there were enough money for a pay rise you wouldnt get one
should i query them about this apparent contradiction?0 -
