why if by asking them i could get more?
loving a job doesnt prevent one loving it more if you could negotiate say a 0. 5% pay increase every 4 or 5 yearsWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Many employers do not have pay points, just individual contracts.
Just as it should be.
Sorry should have been clear, by pay points I meant whatever everyone is on now could be increased by x%.
Though OP's union could of course try to negotiate for a pay scale. Why shouldn't pay be fair and transparent?0 -
A union can negotiate for one person who gets a different pay already to the others and maybe better or worse benefits and the company have decided they aren't getting anything?
I really do doubt it as the company will just say 'sorry no pay rise for you'##
You may doubt that a union can engage an employer in collective bargaining, however I do not.0 -
tir 21, I have not read all the posts but are you working for a Ltd company? If so you can purchase their last annual accounts from Companies House and check how profitable the company is. My husbands last employer went on about how bad the profits were, no money for pay increases etc but the year end accounts showed profits down but nowhere near as much as they stated.0

Initially you may be the first, but with support from your branch or regional organiser you would recruit your colleagues, gain recognition and negotiate with the employer for a pay increase. Of course this will take some time, which is why I would always recommend joining a union from day 1.0
