no pay rise for 5 years

Look, I'm trying to point out that you have to give them a reason to pay you more. At the moment you aren't doing anything to help yourself.
this 'give them reasons they should give you more' approach is nonsense.
it suggests that i tell them that if they give me a pay rise then i will be a better employee. but this is to admit i dont give my best now. i am never late, never have a sick day, and never have any issue with how i perform in my role
the only way i could link an increase in pay to a better performance is to start being late, have 15 days a year sick and start being crap at my job0 -
im sure call me dave would not mind competing in the job market with immigrants
As an immigrant, in UK since 1991, please let me tell you something - you are very welcome to compete for my kind of jobs with me personally. If you have my qualifications/experience/references (all gained here while bringing up my daughter as a single parent AND working my way up from coffee shops/supermarkets/care jobs to where I am now - please definitely go for it.
So fed up with the "immigrants taking OUR jobs" crap....0 -

. and they started treating you like a piece of office furniture, sorry to say that but long time ago 5 years in one job/position was considered dedication, now it is considered lack of ambition
Just look to move on somewhere else where your skills/experience/work ethics will be appreciated and rewarded in a way that you feel comfortable with
It really is that simple.
All the best0 -

i dont care if your fed up with it. more people seeking the same number of jobs will push down pay
i admire you if youve bettered yourself with qualifications but not all immigrants do0 -
It is not about immigrants having or not having qualifications - it is about local, native people not wanting to better themselves and having to "compete" for the lowest paid job.
Sorry but I really do not get it how someone who was born here, is a native English speaker, had a chance of free schooling etc can put himself/herself in that position? To have to "compete" for jobs with mostly non-English speaking new arrivals?
Who are you blaming for that?0 -
then why give them a pay rise? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

someone is always going to have to do the less glamorous jobs. i dont mind doing them but dont want to compete with romainians for them0 -

If you did - you would not have to compete for low paid jobs with those immigrants you seem to despise so much and blame for your own shortcomings.
dont presume to know anything about me or my qualifications, or about why i do the jobs i do
what on earth makes you think i despise anyone?0
