couple of questions, has it been main dealer serviced since new, has a stamp in the book for corrosion check, ever been in a collision on the fron end.
if serviced by dealer, corrosion checked at intervals, never had any repair to the wings (or aftermarket pattern part wings fitted) then wi would be contacting the dlealer again.
if not reguarly serviced by vw (or vw parts used at vat reg garage) not stamped for corrosion checks at intervals, had a repair to it, then i would give up trying for the corrsion warranty, if the rust isnt bad i.e surface rust ask body shops for quates to correct using epoxy sealer primer.0 -
The corrosion warranty is for penetration of the panel, not surface rust, well nigh impossible to claim on as they should have picked up any corrosion starting and charged you for treating it at the inspections long before it had a chance to come through.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Actually, if you google "vw golf rust" the first few hits show people who have got the wings replaced and how they went about it.
One site has a link to a VW bulletin detailing what the problem is and how to fix it.
(a foam pad makes the wheelarch liner rub on the inside of the wing and rub the paint off)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Recently noticed the same problem on my 05 plate Golf. Took the car earlier to my local VW dealer to see if I could get it done free under the 12 year anti-corrosion guarantee. Unfortunately the guy that deals with it wasn't in so told me to go back next week.
From what I have read on the internet, it is a common problem and one that can be repaired under warranty if the dealer is good and the car has a a full VW service history.0 -

This is an 05 Golf I have had from new 71K on the clock now
I'm surprised to read about rusting, I have seen many about even MK4s and no rust I have noticed.0 -
Das Auto.
:rotfl:And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -
Not sure why it affects some and not all. Maybe it depends on where it was built?
Mine has done just over 120k miles; the rust is just developing in the form of a few small air bubbles in the paint-work, near the edge of the front wheel-arches. I probably wouldn't have noticed it had I not seen a post on one of the owner's forum as it isn't really visible unless looking close up.0
