How come nobody mentioned that the Clio posted on page 2 has plastic wings! Those bad boys are never going to rust. Maybe plastic panels are the way forward for VW lol.0

I'm in the same boat. Been offered 50% and no goodwill. Been in touch with exec office and waiting on return call. Pointed out that all though not service by VW the car has been done each year and book stamped up. New break disc's, radiator, cam belt etc. Also bought a Polo on the strength of perceived quality and reputation of the brand.0 -
They have a known problem, with a tech bulletin that addresses it, and have done the repair under warranty for other owners. Shouldn't really be any question that it's covered.
Rather than small claims, maybe an approach to Watchdog?0 -

Phone call from Exec Office late yesterday to it's 50% and no more:mad: Goodwill from VW UK is 50% but the dealer is not prepared to do 'goodwill' because the car has not been serviced by them.
Exec Office sticking to mechanical fault and car is out of 3 year warranty. Told no point in writing to VW Germany as they will forward back to the UK and end up on the same persons desk in the Exec Office.0 -

The weasels at Volkswagen are trying to wriggle out of their obligations. I'm sure they will pay on the long run from all the disgruntled (ex-)customers spreading the word.
I'm sure a few negative comments on twitter using Volkswagen hashtag will help them out!;)0 -

Just so it is easier for Watchdog to find related cases, what category did you choose from the drop-down menu? Are you supposed to choose 'Watchdog'?0 -

I chose 'Transport' from the drop down menu
Not sure it that's the right one but could do another I suppose0 -

I did contact Watchdog AND had several emails back n forth as well as several telephone discussions......It is a known issue
to them by now, the more that complain add weight to the arguement.
VW really do need hauling over the coals the way they've dealt with this scenario!!0 -
Both the following had their cars sorted FOC at VW even without being serviced at the dealerships. The second one at the dealership I would go through!!!!

It's difficult to understand why VW make this issue so difficult for some folks to address. Having read most of this thread over the last few years there seems to be no end of excuses given as to why a warranty claim will not stand.
By way of opposite experience my 8yr old Passat that I did not buy through VW franchise, nor have had it serviced, has today gone to the body shop for two new wings. I have not had to resort to writing any letters/emails or become involved in protracted discussions about the corrosion/warranty issue. My local VW franchise have kindly taken care of the whole issue following a personal visit to their premises. I have only had to deliver the car to the garage and take a courtesy car.
Completely baffled as to why there appears to be no consistency on the part of VW over this problem. Good luck to you all who have to fight on.

having read through all the replies to this thread, i must put this, we bought a brandnew vw golf 1.9 tdi from lookers in teeside (middlesbrough) it had its first service with lookers, all well fantastic service, had trouble with the cruise control again fantastic service fixed straight away no cost to us.
this vw is a 54 model never lets us down, cannot say that for the ford we had, from another ford dealer on teeside.
my wife used this car everyday back and foward to work, holidaysicon, trips to manchester airporticon (holidays abroad) no problem at all, as my wife worked for a garage breakdown service on the a19, all services, mot, ect was done at her place of work,
the car was garaged at home, not used, as i have my van,
couple of weeks ago i took it out for its clean and service, i noticed the wheel arch, was bubbling, on the drivers side, and at the base of both wings, now we did not know this car had a twelve year paint warrenty till i phoned vw on teeside to be told this as fact.
they put in touch with the gentleman, and i mean gentleman, chris wallace, the paint warrenty official service manager. he made me a next day appointment to look at it, so the next off to darlington for inspection, we met at the exact time, paint thickness took, many photos took, of the effected areas, we talked for over a half hour my mind put at ease, yes he stated paint warrenty claim, will put all his finding to vw,
four weeks had passed, phone callicon from chris, they have a date, car ready for me to use, booked in for repairs to paint, ive got to take it in on the 31/5/2011 tuesday, where the vw appointed garage will give me all the details, of work they are going to carry out.
now for me that is cracking service, from lookers, and vw itself, i cannot praise chris wallace for his help, i will keep you all intouch on the outcome, and the work the vw appointed garage will do kindest regards0
