Septembers thread!!!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Good Morning all... am reading Jack's site again. I have lentils and kidney beans and tinned toms and all sorts that I am going to make into burgers and soups with enough to get me through the weekend and into next week without buying anything.
My bananas for my morning smoothie will be sacrificed for banana bread, raisons to bread rolls, falafel mix for burgers x 16:eek:.. peanuts and peanut butter for vegan chocolate crispies, brown rice with limes instead of lemon, frozen butternutsquash in a syrup glaze and roasted, rozen pepper defrosted and fried in with burgers and toasted onions...
The list could go on.
This can be done. I feel I need to find my feet between eating healthy and eating on the cheap. I am need to make my own bread rolls again for sure....... but my freezer space is SO small...
But the idea is there....... I hope everyone is pushing forward until Sunday... September is soon to come. But lets finish this challenge properly...

This is brilliant! (Not the laptop problems).... am so chuffed that you have reduced your shopping bill - how does it feel? have you still managed to eat well - anything you don't miss. Please tell....?“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. .......... I have realised what I need are 1 pot cookery books, where you just literally throw everything in, cover in water, stock, and or wine and then switch to cook.
I will be browsing Amazon, oh wait I don't have any money,
Library Library Library, ask colleague and then take pictues on your phone, library, second hand book shops.. the oldies are the best... don't spend anything!!!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. My food cupboard *was* pretty empty but I'd run out of stuff to go with what was left...What does pretty empty mean? and I couldn't face a week of living off cooked rice/bulgar wheat mixed with herbs ha ha!!! Why not? It could have been another "rice cake" challenge to break through...
So I have broken into my September budget a week early. NAUGHTY ABUNDANT! Darn. What it means is I now have food in again... but - my budget for September will have to be adjusted accordingly. How so?
Still - I am pretty pleased with August, in that I will hit my SFD target I'm sure!
Today = SFD number 18.... from me :T:T:T

I got my 1.5 ltr slow cooker, it's enough for 1 person. I can see that I could fill it and easily eat out of it for 3 days in a row, so potential savings there. Thank goodness I didn't get the 3.5 ltr! in researching cook books there is a lot of prep that goes into slow cooking, fry this, brown that, mix this in, boil that, all before you can throw it in the pot. I have realised what I need are 1 pot cookery books, where you just literally throw everything in, cover in water, stock, and or wine and then switch to cook.
I've had my slow cooker for about 8 years, it cost me £10, its only small but does enough for the 3 of us and a meal or two for the next day.
I did buy a slow cooking book, but tbh its in the garage and was a load of work (must eb@y it actually!) all i do is turn it on take off the lid and bung what ever I'm cooking in. Meat is beautiful in it, I dont add anything in, just a chicken or lump of meat. Some people I know put a bit of water in it, but I don't find it needs it.
mil makes spaghetti and curry in hers all the time, she outs the chicken or mince in, raw, and the rest of the ingredients and lets it cook while she goes to work. It's really easy.
Have a look on the recipes boards,or g00gle recipes to see what suggestions come up.
Just remembered, the only thing I would recommend pre browning is sausages if u want to make a casserole, otherwise they'll not be a pretty colour.Still here..... but working on that!0
