    Hi all

I've just started a savings diary, I want to save 3 months wage to give me a cushion - would love it if everyone would come and wish me luck, and join in as well if you'd like to!

  • Hi All,

Feeling a bit better today so all good, must go through the fridge tonight to plan meals / freeze food to minimise waste! Just raided a colleagues goodie drawer for crisps to go with sandwiches so no excuse to spend money!

    EH xx
  • Mrs Toast Maisie is absolutely beautiful!

Loved the picture of the chicken Kat ~ I'll have to show my daughter when she gets home, she's mad on chickens!

Today should be an SFD but I'm in a dangerous 'bored' mood so instead of spending I came on here. Hubby is at work, children are at grandparents and I'm here alone. There's lots I could be doing but I'm not feeling great today so am resting and trying really hard not to order 'something and anything' for no other reason than I feel like it.

Do any of you get in this sort of mood and if you do, do you have any tips to resist spending?
  • Gorgeous Maisie! Such a cutie! Congratulations again!

So yesterday turned out to be very, very low spend: I bought some soft drinks to go to dinner (I was driving) and had a brand match voucher from Sains, so only 66p spend :T

Today will be spendy day too . . . really need to get some SFDs under my belt though, not doing well on that front.

Thats an expensive Cushion, you should try Ikea! lol

I know I am gonna save up a kitty, for emergencys and then use anything above that to pay off loans early. Im scared if I start putting everything spare into the loans i will get caught short for a car bill or something!

My Goal this month: To reduce spending and reduce my overdraft! It’s at about £700 at the moment but I have to buy a new annual travel pass at the end of August, so that is another £500.

My Goal Eventually: To go into shops, see something I like and be able to buy it without guilt! (oh and put down a deposit for a flat… I am renting at the moment)

I started my challenge on Mon 29th July so I am on day ten today. Didn’t want to wait as I knew I would probably ‘allow’ myself lots of last minute spends, justifying to myself this was ok as the challenge hadn’t started yet… Sound familiar? ;)

Food and drink bought when out- £9.40
    Other food and drink- £15.41
    Beauty stuff- £5.79/£10
    Present - £2.50
    Booze- £3.38
    Transport- £8.50
    DVD- £7.50
    Ticket £16

    Total so far £68.48

Really need to be more organised and cut down on needing to buy food when out and about but haven’t done badly. I am justifying the ticket as I am in London for a few days in September and rather than spend a fortune on a musical, I am going to see a play instead as there is someone in it who I am a big fan of :j

Also am starting to say “no” more. “No, sorry I can’t go out for tea”, “no, sorry I cannot see that film I don’t really want to see anyway”, although the lovely weather certainly helps as have been going out for lovely long walks at the beach instead which costs nothing.

I have also, reluctantly, had to decline an invitation to a wedding later in the year. The cost of hotels and transport will run into the hundreds and I just cannot afford it. It's a shame but it feels quite literating to say "no"!
  • :o :wave:Well hello there everyone!
Its long time, no see as took part in Kats challenges in Jan-April of this year and then rather fell off the wagon with one thing and another. When I was last here my hubby had just been made redundant and was in the process of trying to set up as a freelance designer. Everything just became too much financially and emotionally and I almost had to stick my head in the sand for a few months just to survive mentally.
Well, things are starting to look a bit brighter. Mr Boo has now been offered and started a new job as a designer. Its a 50 minute drive away which is horrendous both financially in petrol but also in time, but its better than the instability we had with him trying to set up freelance. At least now we know he has a wage coming in each month. My baby twins have had to go back to the childminder three days a week (I work 4 days a week and hubby managed to negotiate to work one day a week from home) but that still costs us a hefty £170 a week. Can't wait till they get their free hours at pre-school!!!
Know it is too late to join you for August now so will be cheerleading furiously whilst keeping a tight rein on this months spends and preparing to do battle and join September's challenge.
Have just been sat with all the spreadsheets. Overall since April we have a couple of thousand more on the credit cards than we had in April (just surviving) but in total our debt is almost exactly the same as we continued to be able to make our loan repayments and so those debts have come down. Had hoped we would be a bit further down our road to financial freedom by now but that's life for you.
So, with renewed vigour I am writing down any spends, trying for as many spend free days as I can and starting to raid my brain for any money making schemes I can think of.
Have been looking back at how lots of people who I recognise from earlier in the year are getting on and you are incredibly inspiring!!! Kat - can't believe how much you have managed to pay off!!! AMAZING!!!
With pom-poms in air I shout 'GO, GO, GO' everybody!!!
Off to look for clothes to ebay!!!
