No because the same scam could be done with more legal 18 rated material....

Yes, but this thread is devoted to a scam involving R18 material.
...This scam isn't demanding payment either. If the person wants to call the number that's up to them.

Section 2 of the Unsolicited Goods Act 1971 makes it an offence to even assert a right to payment for unsolicited goods. Making a "demand for payment" is certainly an offence. The fact that the demand is made pursuant to a phone call by the recipient is neither here nor there. Of course if you think different, you can always give it a whirl yourself, but personally I wouldn't risk it. :)

I've just phoned BT and it's not recognised by their system. I'm not entirely surprised by this as there are many companies out there who buy 0843/4/5/0870 etc numbers from BT and then sell them (and their own tariffs) on to businesses to use to generate revenue.

Given the positive response nigelbrooks has received from the Met Police vice team (see his posts nos. 59, 61, 132 & 177), I'm sure they will use all their powers to investigate this matter - I'd love to hear the final outcome, but I'd be happy just not to receive any more unsolicited !!!!!!! :j

Offcom will have a list of who this number was allocated to.

I think you're straying from my point that this could have been politically motivated.

I can't help wondering if this isn't just a money scam but some sort of protest about the banning online pornography thing. Because otherwise why wouldn't this have been done before.

I've read online it has been done before, in USA

I looked it up on offcom. This number was issued to telecom2 in 2009, suspect they have to keep a record of who it is then passed on to?
  • I'm glad I found this forum about the DVD scam, as I've had one sent to my parents house. my dad rang to say I got parcel so said to him open it for me... Shock

The company registered at that address is a massive direct mail fulfilment company who handle fulfilment for 'legitimate' brands, many of which you will recognise.

Google the full return address and you will see what I mean.

I wonder if an employee is using them to send out scam mail.

I will suggest to the police, when they visit, that they might want to inform them that their legitimate business is being used in this way.

yes , indeed the address is a direct mail fulfilment company - Spring Global Mail
