I also received the two !!!!!! DVDs and rang Trading Standards who were then going to tell the police. They also advised me to contact Action Fraud which I did.
  • I got these discs as well, but mine only had my address, not my name. checked them for viruses, nothing, they are trying to get you to phone or text them, but the discs can be watched without a pin, you just have to navigate manually to the track number you wish to watch.

haha, you sound a tad upset, must be cause you didn't get any

i've also posted it on a football forum i'm on, and a guy replied saying his mum & dad got it as well, the same titles.

anyway, here's the photo, just a direct link in code tags, covered all the bits i could.

[Link removed because as a newbie I'm not allowed to post with links]

so, if you think folk are trolling, just stay out of the thread and stop trying to be the smart so & so :)

Thanks BJProc - I was just about to do the same thing. Tally-ho doesn't realise how offensive their accusations are - almost as offensive as the disks themselves! Why would hundreds of people suddenly decide to randomly join in this thread (newbies and oldies alike) if they weren't affected? (apart from Tally-ho that is, who clearly thinks they can comment even if it has damn-all to do with them!) Like all the other victims, I was directed to this site by googling the return address on the envelope. I've been receiving weekly emails from MSE.com for over a year now (Martin Lewis is a God in my household!) but only joined two days ago so I could have my say on this subject. I'm glad I've finally joined and will join in discussions on occasional topics of interest in the future, but naturally I shall treat any of Tally-ho's comments with the contempt they deserve!!!

Welcome to all the newbies who have joined MSE. Sorry that it was something unwarranted and offensive that persuaded you to join, but hope you all stick around.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • I received these envelopes in the post too. I recently had a serious fraud on my o2 mobile account where my personal data was compromised. Has anyone had a similar problem as I'm thinking the two may be linked.

Can the regulars on these boards STOP replying to this troll??

    I bit my tongue, but....

This would be, of course, the same 'troll' that had two police officers sitting in my lounge yesterday taking notes and recovering the, in your opinion, non-existent, DVDs would it?

This would be the same 'troll' that has now garnered over 100 reports to my local Trading Standards office, is it?

I would like to think sir or madam that you are man/woman enough to post an unreserved apology to the people who you have offended by your post, most of whom joined because they were distressed by receiving such material through the post.

Ruddy well down to MSE and the more level heads here who have provided reassurance and advice.

I wouldn't worry, they have got a list from somewhere but there seems no common theme.

I am very very conscious of online security but you cannot counter what happens to your name and address once a company has it on their database.

WELL SAID nigelbrooks! I'm grateful to Nilrem for initiating this thread, highlighting this scam so quickly, and to others, including yourself, for your intelligent advice - it's particularly reassuring to know that the Met Police have taken your complaint seriously and I do hope they catch the culprits. My husband's grateful too - he gets dreadful back-ache if he has to sleep on the sofa! ;)

Yes I'd like to reassure the newbies on this thread that we're not all as rude as tallyho and I'm just hoping I don't receive them either.
Welcome to a mainly helpful site, with only a minority of people with smart ar*sed comments.
