Not that the authorities will care, or can do anything about it, but there is also a description on the discs that reads "Service Provided by Quietlynn BV, PO Box, NZ Voorburgwal 86, 1012 SE, Amsterdam, Netherlands".

It is illegal to ship/post R18 material from a UK address.

As these came from a fulfilment house in Middlesex it is why the police are interested.

It's more the case that the Video Recordings Act 1984 states that R18 material can only be supplied to adults in licensed sex shops, and that it is an offence to supply R18 material in any other way; such as via mail order.

As far as I can see, it isn't an offence to post R18 material per se. So anyone who did receive any of these discs and did decide to 'return to sender' wouldn't be committing an offence, as they wouldn't be 'supplying' them. Just in case anyone has.

As the goods were unsolicited you do not have to pay to send them back - if bill arrives write on it that the goods were not ordered by you and therefore they are unsolicited items. Tell the company that the goods are available for collection within 3 months, if they do notcollect within that time you will destroy the items.

    A good point.

I am no lawyer but my understanding is that while it is not illegal for a company based outside of the UK to ship such items to you it is illegal for a UK-based company so to do.

These items were clearly shipped from the UK as the envelopes bore a Royal Mail impress.

No need for that. Section 24 of the The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 applies. They are 'unsolicited goods' and therefore the recipient is entitled to "deal with or dispose of the goods as if they were an unconditional gift to him".

That's my understanding. If the items were 'clearly shipped from the UK' it would clearly be a supply contrary to the VRA 1984 and thus an offence. (It looks like you can get six months.) Thus plod might well be interested.

I don't know if anyone else has posted this, as I haven't read the whole thread. But I've just done a quick search, and it seems to be a mail order company:

Principle Secrets - Mail Order in Greenford UB18 7NL

    Address:

    Greenford
    Middlesex

I should think that it is more likely to be marketing than a scam. They may be samples that they have sent out, in the hope that you will order more.

Don't put them in your PC, just in case they do contain viruses. But try playing them on your DVD player to see if this is the case (obviously not if you would be offended).

I received these two discs on Monday as well. Caught me by surprise, but as soon as I saw the unsubscribe number I cottened on. Then when the disc wouldn't play in the DVD player without having to enter a code that costs money it all became clear. Basically just an ill judged spam or get rich quick attempt. As others have mentioned the material on the discs is easily viewable on a PC if you know how, so I was to able witness all 30 odd scenes of this complete hardcore smut without paying a penny.

I hope the authorities get to the bottom of this.
