Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

My wife and I are due to fly to Barcelona this coming Saturday 12/11/16 with Vueling from Manchester.
I was notified on 2/11/16 that our flights had been re-scheduled to the day before Friday 11/12/16 as the flight on the Saturday has been cancelled (I assume due to being under-booked however was told operational reasons) I told Vueling that this was not acceptable as we were both working on the Friday and could not fly and we have subsequently agreed to travel on Sunday 13/11/16 exactly 24 Hours after the original flight.
This has caused various problems such as loss of a non-refundable car hire payment that I have had to re-book as well as cancellation of hotel bookings.
Having researched all the information I am unclear as to whether we are entitled to compensation as compensation for cancelled flights seems to revolve around the time of arrival of the alternative flight offered. (see below copied/pasted text)
Leaves 2hrs+ before, lands up to 2hrs after 125 euros
Leaves 4hrs+ late. OR leaves 2hrs+ before, lands 2hrs+ after 250 euros.
Clearly the flight offered leaves more than 2 Hrs before the original which seems to fit the bill but obviously lands prior to the original as it takes off the day before.
Am I reading this right as it doesn't seem right that you can be offered flights prior to the booked one to circumvent payment or have I got it completely wrong.
Many Thanks in advance for any help before I make a claim.0 -
Hi Motorisedman,
You need to read Vaubans guide, google it then download. There is a link, towards the bottom, to the EU261 regulations. Read article 5, Cancellation.
As they informed you less than two weeks prior to departure you are due full compensation. The guide is full of great information that will point you in the right direction.
Good luck. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -
You could also see if there are any alternative flights with a different airline at similar or lower cost and request both a refund and compensation from Vueling due to the cancellation within 14 days.
I would also make sure your return flight has not been changed. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Thanks very much for your responses. I have now read the guide and have to say that makes much more sense and is in more detail than the limited info on the website.
Appreciate your help Thanks:T0 -
Have been trying since September to get refund for car hire after flight from Edinburgh to gatwick was delayed overnight and we drive home to Kent. Easyjet said that payment approved on 3 Oct. since then no cheque or communication received except in response to my chasing and no help whatsoever!
Took to Twitter and Facebook to gee them up. Today they said on Twitter that as of today the company has stopped issuing cheques and asked for my bank details to make a direct payment. I am deeply suspicious of this as the msg was signed off "AM". I want to say no thank you, just the cheque please! Has anyone else heard of this and is it just a stalling tactic?0 -
Why are you negotiating on Social media? Send them one further letter demanding payment within 7 days and if they don't pay, sue them0

If my flight is cancelled, can I book myself on a flight either operated by a different airline, or else from a different neighbouring airport?0

If the former, there is no problem, you take your refund (and possibly compensation depending on the reason for cancellation) and book what you want.
If the latter, there is no guarantee that you would be reimbursed so I would suggest you get it in writing from the airline that they will reimburse you before you spend your money.0 -
If a flight scheduled to take off at 10:00 is rescheduled to take off 14:00and I am notified about that 24 hours before the flight would I be entitled to compensation under EU regs 261/2004?
Obviously arriving at the destination with a 3 or hours delay to the original scheduled arrival time.0 -
I assume that you did go on the rescheduled flight. If so, what time did the flight arrive and was this more than 3 hours after the original scheduled arrival time?0
