But you have plenty of time to start proceedings if necessary. At this stage you should contact them with a list of all the passengers in your group and make the claim. They will probably want parents to sign receipts on behalf of their own children but you have to start somewhere0

Hello, my flight was due to leave MCO on 30st July at 18:40 (local time).
When I went to check in (the first one), I was told of a delay and cannot check in at present (14:00 Local time). Further information was to follow (never did) and please wait.
At 16:30 want to check in desk for any information on delay, the reply was we are putting you up in an hotel overnight.
So flight next day leaving at 16:20 but delayed and we left at 17:30 on the 31st July.
The only information I had was when i got off the plane at gatwick still no explanation of why only saying they were delayed and that's all.
Do you think i have a fair claim against the carrier or not ?
Flight details Thomas cook MT493.
Thank you all.

No but presumably they fulfilled their duty of Care in providing refreshmnts, food and accomadation for 24 hours? Which airline was it?
If it goes to court, its easier if they are over 18.
It was British Airways and they did do all of the above. Could/would have been a nightmare day if spent entirely at the airport though!0 -
My delay happened back in late May but thought I would share my experiences of asking Qatar Airlines for EU261 compensation.
I purchased a return ticket from Manchester to Hanoi with the outward flight having a 50 minute connection in Doha. Unfortunately the flight from Manchester to Doha was delayed by 2.5 hours due to the lack of a first officer which meant I missed the connection. Qatar did put me up in a reasonable hotel but the delay meant arriving in Hanoi a full 24 hours after I was scheduled to.
I contacted Qatar thinking this was a pretty straightforward case for 600 euros compensation but they have come up with a variety of quite absurb reasons regarding why they are not going to pay me.
The first and probably the most bizarre was that Doha, not Hanoi was my final destination and that I was only 2.5 hours late in Doha. How on earth they came to this conclusion is beyond me as all my flights were on the same ticket.
Next they stated that staff illness is an exceptional circumstance, it is not and there is case law to prove this.
Finally they claimed that because they're not an EU airline, they and Emirates not liable to EU261 when flying from an EU country to the middle east.
After much correspondance, I have been forced to pursue this claim using the government's moneyclaim website. However the reason for posting the above is that I am wondering if I missed something regarding EU261 because to me it appears a very straightforward claim.0 -

EU261 is not clear on this...if you have a look at this thread there are a number of similar cases https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4445423
If you read the last few pages you will see links to court case outcomes where the judge has sided with the airline and those that have sided with the passenger...there is also a link to the latest info
You are unlikely to get any payment without taking your chance in court0 -
Thanks to this site pointing me to resolver.co.uk I was able to get compensation for a friend whose flight was delayed 37 hours. It was very easy: Resolver emailed Qatar, and Qatar replied within 24hrs with the offer! Great stuff!0

I bought tickets to south africa online which involved the outbound flight with Lufthansa and the return with Swiss Air.
The outbound flights (changing in Frankfurt) went without a hitch.
However, the return flight via Zurich we arrived in Zurich just a few minutes late (being told by the pilot actually we couldn't arrive any earlier because the airport hadn't opened yet) My connection to Manchester I knew already looked tight but was told on arrival in Zurich my flight had been rebooked as it was not possible to get my connection to Manchester.
I was handed a voucher for a small bottle of water and a chocolate bar.
I was then put on a flight to Frankfurt with Lufthansa and then again from Frankfurt to Manchester with Lufthansa bringing my total delay time to 3 hours 20 minutes.
So my questions are - Who do I write to for Flight compensation? Lufthansa or Swiss Air?
I understand Swiss Air is part of the EEA so should follow the regulations for flight delay compensation, but from what I've read so far on this forum I havent seen anyone successful in getting it.
From what I can see Swiss Air knew all along that I would not make my connection, then are they allowed to sell the ticket like this???0 -
We flew with Excel Airways in 2007 from Cyprus to Manchchester and were delayed for about 6/7 hours . Excel are no longer in existence can I still claim and if so who to? We paid with a credit card0

Carol - airline bust = no claim possible. 2007 over 6 years ago = no claim possible.0
