@Caz3121 In a nutshell my flight was delayed due to a knock-on effect from that same aircraft having originally been delayed by a technical fault of that same aircraft earlier that day. Norwegian is claiming extraordinary circumstances. :D I have read Vauban's Guide and If I don't get a meaningful reply from ECC I will definitely be taking this further. Thanks

Just to let you know, you won't get a meaningful reply from the ECC. They have no ability to pressure the airline effectively. Other regulars here will correct me, but I don't recall a single case where intervention by the ECC made a positive impact.

From what you describe, a knock-on case from an earlier technical problem, your case is as iron cast as they come. So my advice is not to waste further time but do the one thing the airline can't ignore: initiate legal proceedings.

I rang Bott online to check, and as I suspected they said it wouldn't take on the case as air traffic control problems come under exceptional circumstances. I've emailed Etihad back and asked for a monetary offer rather than the air miles offer, see what comes of it.
    I'll report back.

Just to let you know, Etihad said they'd reviewed my circumstances, but wouldn't budge, air miles or nothing. Worth a try tho. Thanks for the help, everyone.

Oh well - worth a try. Nothing ventured and all that.

hi I am knew to site so hopefully am doing right thing.

We had a flight booked on easy jet Luton to Alicante 7.40pm on Sunday. The boards said delayed them eventually said cancelled. After rushing around airport we were eventually told by groundstaff not easy jet to go back to departures where easy jet could only offer flight this Friday. As we are flying back on Friday it was no good so booked with another airline online but from Birmingham next day. Easy jet said they would refund and give €250 each is that right as online it says it's just over 1500km (1509km) ? Greatly appreciate any suggestions (had the pay about £150 for new flight)

This is confusing. Are you saying that it wasn't your flight that was cancelled although you mistakenly thought that it was?

By the the sounds of it to me he is due his Easyjet flight cost back plus €400 for the flight cancellation. As you rightly said it is just over 1500km.
Google and download "Vaubans Guide" Everything is explained.

The flight was EZY 2227 7th August 2016
  • Just thought I'd leave some info on a claim I made with Thomas Cook and how it went - got there in the end but it was a pain.

I was claiming for my mum and her friend, who'd been delayed by several hours on a flight back from Turkey several years ago. It's worth noting I was using mum's name in my correspondence, not sure if they'd let you sort it out on someone else's behalf but she's not good with these things! My mum's friend had made the booking but they let me (pretending to be my mum!) request and receive the entire refund with no issues.

I initially filled in Thomas Cook's online claim form (I tried using MSE's tool but got an auto reply from TC saying that was no longer the correct address to use). Downside of the online form is you have no record of what you sent and when, so make a note of it yourself. I had the booking details and reference, but not the boarding passes. I'd looked up the historic flight details and delay length online (sorry can't remember what website).

After about 2 months, no reply, so I followed up - you do this via the online claim form again, but it's a pain, you literally just have to fill in all the details again. I didn't fill in everything as I thought they'd already have it from the first time - but no! This time I got an email back asking for the 'missing' details, which was good as then at least I was talking to a real person. They said they'd get back to me within 28 days. For info the email address was:
    customer.relations@thomascook.onmats.com

Almost a month later I got an email with vouchers attached in compensation, the amount was correct (for the total due to both my mum and her friend). It said something along the lines of 'this is in full and final settlement'. However in the original form, I'd ticked a box to say she wanted cash not vouchers, so I emailed back again stating this.

About 2 weeks later, another email to say that was fine, and that it'd take 10 working days to receive the cash in her bank account. After 14 working days it wasn't there, so my mum rang them, and they confirmed it was on its way. I believe it arrived shortly after that, although not sure exactly how long. It was the full amount for my mum and her friend, so she needed to transfer the relevant amount to her friend (and unscrupulous persons could potentially just pocket it all for a group booking!).

So - total time taken about 4 months, and lots of back and forth, but worth it in the end! Hope this is useful to someone.
  • My flight was delay from Gatwick in April, take off was delayed by 2 hours 48 minutes to Florida, not sure why. The weather was bad at Orlando so we circled for a while and then due to low fuel had to re-route and land at Jacksonville where we stayed for a few hours after refuelling as the authorities would not let us take off until they checked all paperwork. We were not offered anything to eat or drink and the pilot was advised that we were extremely close to the crew working over their required hours and was extremely apologetic. We eventually landed at Orlando 377 minutes late, that's almost 6 and a half hours late.

Is this worth submitting a claim for compensation for or will they say the weather was the mitigating factor?
