Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

I'm begining to think we need ANOTHER new thread to collect and collate all the specious tripe and excuses the airlines are now inventing to avoid their obligations. This evidence of deliberate misinformation can then be forwarded to the CAA - for them to ignore.......If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Totally agree JPears. I have been passed from pillar to post, CAA, ATOL, as much use as a chocolate fireguard. :mad:0

I was delayed almost 24 hrs on a flight home from Malta in April 2014. I used the MSE template & posted my claim on Saturday 17th January 2015. Today I recieved an email telling me I was indeed entitled to compensation & I'm going to be awarded €400. Thank you MSE for making it easy for me to claim.0

Apologies if this has been dealt with previously, but this is a huge forum. Can anyone advise me about the codeshare issue, which seems to be a big grey area.
We booked with Qantas for Heathrow to Brisbane, changing at Dubai. There was a technical fault on the Qantas A380 at Heathrow, meaning that we left 2.5 hours late and arrived in Dubai with the same delay, 20 minutes before our flight to Brisbane was due to depart. The Brisbane flight was operated by Emirates, although we had the Qantas flight number. We were told we had missed the connection (even though they held the Perth flight scheduled to depart before ours) and were shunted off to a hotel. Emirates looked after us, but we arrived in Brisbane 18 hours behind schedule incurring unnecessary hotel charges (for us and our daughter - who was meeting us there) and a missed day of holiday.
Qantas are cleary at fault for the initial delay, but do we have any reasonable chance of claiming any compensation given Emirates' involvement?0 -

Slightly off topic, but I noticed that Leeds Bradford aip0rt was closed for an extended period yesterday morning (Wednesday), alleged due to 5" snow. I would query this as the actual cause of delays as I live a mile from the airport and only 150 feet lower. Whilst there was snow on the Tuesday evening of approx 1 inch max and a little early in the morning, it was very wet and slushy and very rapidly thawing even at 6.30am ( i know because I was out at that time and ALL the roads were clear and no icing.)
So unless the airport developed a very local extreme microclimate I suspect there were other additional reasons for the delays/cancellations. One wonders if the airports are now in league with airlines over certain aspects of "time management"?
Bear in mind it is Jet2's main base of operations.......;)If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Leeds Bradford does indeed seem to have a micro climate, not just for snow but ice and fog, and frequently wind. I fly through LBA around 20 times a year and picking up a hire car there I can spend 10 minutes scraping off the ice or peering through the mist, only to find at the far end of Scotland Lane the weather is completely different. To be honest, no airport wants to close since every plane that goes elsewhere, and they lost most of yesterday mornings flights, pays another airport landing fees instead of LBA. The shops and cafes lose out since people are bussed elsewhere, so it is a loss all through the airport. They were certainly ploughing the runway and the pictures of the Ryanair plane that had been parked overnight suggested there was a lot more than slush. I suspect Jet2 lose a lot of money being based at LBA moving people from Manchester or East Midlands in the winter.
Just got my fingers crossed for Saturday morning.....0 -

We recently went on honeymoon to South Africa in August 2014, flying from Edinburgh to Port Elizabeth with 2 stop overs. Our flight plan was as follows:
Edinburgh - Charles de Gaulle Paris (Air France)
Charles de Gaulle Paris - Johannesburg (Air France)
Johannesburg - Port Elizabeth (South African Airways)
Our middle flight form Charles de Gaulle Paris to Johannesburg was delayed due to a technical fault, we were scheduled for a 11.30pm take off but didn't take off until 12.49am. As a result we missed our connecting flight at Johannesburg onto Port Elizabeth.
The airport managed to get us changed onto a British Airways flight and we eventually got into Port Elizabeth at 17:28 instead of our previous arrival time of 14:05.
We were due to be picked up by our airport transfer to take us on the first part of our honeymoon, which was a safari and as a result we missed the first evening and game drive of our stay there, so it would be great if we'd be able to claim something for missing out on this.
The whole holiday was booked by Barrhead Travel but I'm not sure if we're entitled to compensation as we missed a connecting flight on a different airline?
Any advice would be much appreciated!
