But I have seen that online that I'm entitled to a full refund as the delay was so long? Is this true?

A full refund is applicable in addition to the compensation if the flight is delayed over 5 hours and you choose not to travel.
If you travelled there is no refund due

re the hotel and other costs, they have no liability to pay these, only the set figure of €600. You should try your travel insurance for the other expenses (unless you are referring to the hotel and expenses whilst you waited in Philly)
  • Put my claim in last Sunday got a comfirmation email to say that they were looking into it, yesterday got another email to say that I would be payed in compensation in voucher less than a week thank thomas cook but I don't want vouchers all ready booked and payed for this years holiday can I ask for money ?:T:T

Have a look over on the Thomson (no P) thread, many similar tales there

Start with the FAQs on the first page of the thread

Sometimes there are no winners in the early stages of it going wrong!

This aircraft departed from one of the London airports heading for the southern USA. So a long flight getting towards the limit of the aircraft endurance and towards the limits of the crew's legally permitted flight and duty times.

After take-off they found that the cabin could not be pressurised so the flight could not climb above 10,000ft. A defect that could not be discovered on any pre-takeoff check.

It then had to fly orbits for some time whilst the crew tried to rectify the problem, and then dump fuel to permit it to land
(a fully laden aircraft usually exceeds the permitted landing weight so except in a life or death emergency to avoid it being subject to possible damage and certainly expensive checks and maintenance airlines will burn off or dump (if the aircraft is fitted to do this) fuel to lose weight).

On it's return to London the fault was discovered and rectified
Fully open outflow valve due to a dodgy sensor. Fault was repaired fairly quickly
The outflow valves fully close or partially close to pressurise the cabin
but the crew were going to go out of hours
If they were to go out of hours during the flight it is not legally permitted to depart. For an aircraft that size (Boeing 747) no airline will have a standby crew to cover the flight.

Of course where we are talking about flights approaching the flight and duty limits, airlines would need to change standby crew probably every hour during the day to ensure that would always be within limits, that is a lot of crew on standby and a huge expense, guess who would pay it - the customer!!
Look at it also from the standby crew POV, (and this aircraft would need 2 flight crew and about 20 cabin crew) sat at an airport waiting to see if they will be called from a flight, not knowing where to or for how long. How does that allow them to have any sort of life, would you do it? So no employer/airline asks them to do so

But it didn't matter anyway as
the flight would have arrived after the curfew
So the destination airport would have been closed (and they can't fly circles waiting for it to open)

    So,
Therefore it was cancelled and the passengers dispersed onto other services.
    .

Little doubt of the cause but it does show that it is not a quick fix to correct as some seem to think!

Or this FB conversation: - (C = Captain, P = Pilot of the original flight, F = Friend)
    C Tech — at ******* Airport
    P Doesn't sound good!
    F What did you break?
C Nowt: ferried a fresh one in
P Thanks... Don't want any delays for tonight!
C Swapped out DAM, swapped in DHD (shortened aircraft registrations)
P It best be a good one!
    Later
C Jet is fixed:-) (So C could take it back to the original departure point of the replacement)
    F2 Hammer?
C Wiggly and straight amp problem.
F3 Hope they kept the smoke contained (Aviation joke)

So this airline got a crew and a spare aircraft, flew it about 120 miles to allow a flight to go ahead. Now I don't know how long the original was delayed.
But is this not a reasonable use of all the resources available, yet if the original is delayed more than 3 hours passengers can still claim.
    Is that really reasonable?

P.S. in the interests of honesty I know 3 of the posters personally
  • Hi
Please advised! dont know if KLM is giving us the right amount
of compensation.Man-Amsterdam flight 1 hour delay due to late arrival of aircraft which in turn delayed due to restrictions put forward by Airport and Governmental authorities(According to them). Missed our connecting flight to Manila. Had a bad experienced at Amsterdam Airport coz of poor customer care, got 2 kids with me waited in the airport for hours.Booked us in a hotel and our flight was booked the following day with their sister airline, that was almost 24 hours delay on our expected arrival on our final destination.Got a response from them that we are not due any compensation but instead offer us a gesture of goodwill worth EUR250 each. Flight was booked directly on KLM website. Is this a fair amount of compensation or can i pursue it further? Thanks.

Jet 2 flight took off on time from manchester on 1st feb 2014 but after a hour and half had to return due to navigation system problem flew back to Leeds airport after circling in the air for approx another hour and half ,our first landing had to be aborted but our 2cd landed safely. Changed aircraft arrived in tenerife 6 hours late. Only offered a free hot drink. Can we make a claim?

I am now in process of writing to jet2 . Does anyone know a name of whom I could contact or should I just write to customer service department.?

Plus this flight was actually reported in the manchester evening news and jet 2 quoted that all passengers received free drinks and food which we didn't ,we just got one hot drink each. There were no hot food and the food that was available we had to pay for.
