I've not heard anything back from BA, been just over a month now. I sent the letter recorded.

I've emailed their customer relations to state I've had no response and if they don't acknowledge within 7 days I will go to the CAA.

Are people at least getting acknowledged from BA?

I didn't get any acknowledgement for my claim, which was successfully paid after a couple of months. I suggest calling Customer Relations. They will no doubt tell you that your claim is in the queue and they have a huge backlog, yada, yada, but they will at least give you your claim reference number that you can use to chase them every couple of weeks.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

Was wondering if somebody could tell me if we can now claim. My wife and kids were on a flight from Heathrow to Johannesburg on 29 April 2011 and there was a delay of about 3.5 hours and it was South African Airways' fault. I had previously written to them just after the event and if I recall correctly they said my claim didn't fall under the jurisdiction and I thought it was because for flights over 3,500km delays must be more than 4 hours. Centipede100 mentioned that I should be able to claim and I wrote them again claiming the money. They however came back again and said as it wasn't over 4 hours and it was to a non EU airport the claim is not eligible under the law. Is there still anything I can stand on or quote from law claiming this back?

    Thanks
  • We experienced a 26 hour delay returning home from hurghada in egypt in november of last year. Last week we used the template letter from this site and sent it to thomas cook...

Last night i had a call from them confirming they accept our claim and would be posting vouchers totalling £1200.. my response.. no thank you tot he vouchers and actually due to the miles we were actually entitled to the higher amount of 600 euros per person not the 400 they were offering. They tried to state that due to the flight path we were actually below the 3500 km limit and that google gives the wrong response... luckily i had the mile checker open from a link on the original post which confirmed it was 4140 km away... 5 minutes later another call to say yes we were correct and at todays exchange rate that equates to £534 per person!!! The cheque is in the post...

    Thank you so much!!!

    For some posters above.

    Dear Martin and All

I would welcome your thoughts on the following. I bought a ticket with an airline which involved a transfer in London (from a regional airport through to Europe) - the return plane was delay by just under two hours due to a breakdown. This would have been a minor inconvenience, but as a result of this delay I was not able to make the connection in London. The airline paid for transfer to the hotel and back by taxi, a nights accommodation in a hotel, dinner and breakfast and put me on a flight the following day. As a result I did not get back to my departure airport until over 12 hours after I should have, missing an evening with my family and some of work the following day. I faxed a letter of complaint to the airline using the details as indicated on their website but two weeks on I have heard nothing.

My question is, if the original delay (technical problem as the plane was broken) is under two hours then this appears to be outside the compensation limits, however, I was delayed by over 13 hours due to their technical fault. Do you know what rules apply in this scenario?

Although this is specific to me, it would be interesting to have clarification for others as well as I am sure that this will arise in the future and therefore may be worth a note in the article.

    Many thanks

    Anon

I have a similar experience to 'Anon' and would appreciate some advice.

We were flying to Mauritius with Air France via Paris. Our first flight (Manchester to Paris) was delayed by an hour meaning that we did not have time to board our connecting flight. Air France put us up in a grotty airport hotel and would not give us access to our luggage. There was no availability on the 4pm flight the next day, so we were allocated seats on the 11pm flight - meaning that we arrived in Mauritius 24 hours later than scheduled. I spoke to Air France at the time about financial compensation and they said they had met their obligations by providing us with a hotel room & meals. Do we have any rights to financial compensation?

Brewer dave, 24 hour delay for a burst tyre? You gotta be kidding :D
  • Hi there - I am trying to download the example complaint letters from the website about the flight delays - however they are .rtf files and on a mac come up as a complete jumble of letters and symbols. Please could MSE give them as .doc ? or if anyone has any advice as to how I can 'unjumble' them I'd be very grateful. many thanks
  • I have just found details flight numbers ETC for a delayed flight from KOS to LGW back in 2011.

The Ticket says Olympic but the flight was TOR AIR which i don't think exists anymore.

Can i still claim to Olympic ?

    thanks.
  • Just after a little advice if anyone can give a view on this as a claim
    Man-Lanzarote 4h10m flight

    Flight due to depart 8:25am
    Boarded plane at 8:10am
Just before due to setoff, tech fault with plane.
Various estimates given over time as to how long will take
11am - told us can't leave plane as coaches need arranging, won't be long now before takeoff
12:10pm - told spare plane here shortly
My wife had become ill throughout the morning(no air-condititioning for 4 hours on a full plane) and we left the plane and went back to the terminal.
We then rebooked tickets at our expense(£65 * 4) on the next flight. Bear in mind this at 1pm and they booked us on the 11:55am flight as that had been delayed (turns out the 11.55am flight was the plane the used for the original flight).
This new flight eventually departed at 4:40pm.
  • It seems from all of the posts in this forum that people are mostly just going after the money. Some people do genuinely seem to have been mistreated by thier airline and that is understandably why they are claiming and I think fair. To all the others who were delayed by 3 hours and 1 minute having paid little for thier flights ask yourselves this, do you enjoy holidays abroad. Also can you remember a time when only the wealthy travelled. You are speeding a return to that time. Airlines operate at extremely small profit margins where. Most normal business wouldn't even dream of trading and that requires mass throughput which causes delays. Do you want a holiday every year or one every 10. On the flip side however at least the manners of the travelling public will improve.
