Hi,
I phoned Easyjet Customer Services this morning as they have just rejected my compensation claim for a 5 hour delay to an Alicante to Stansted flight in September 2010. My claim was rejected on the basis the technical fault with the plane that caused the delay (contaminated hydraulic fluid evidently) is classed as an extraordinary event under the legislation. The (very polite and helpful) Customer Service rep I spoke to confirmed that Easyjet classifies all technical faults as extraordinary events, and rejects them accordingly.
As this goes against everything I have read on this board and online I will be appealing to the CAA (Easyjet do not have their own appeal process for these claims).
Would have expected this attitude from Ryanair, but I really like Easyjet so I'm going to have to reconsider my views! Don't blame them for trying to minimise the number of claims they pay out, but seems a bit short sighted.....0 -
This may well be because I'm on IE6 at work, but I can't seem tio find the letter templates anywhere?
I'm trying to claim for a 5 hour+ delay to a RyanAir flight from Manchester to Verona in June 2012. I've already drafted a letter summarising what happened and including booking and flight reference numbers etc, I just wonder whether I need to cite certain legislation or anything, and how exactly you word what you're asking for in terms of compensation etc?0 -
Hope someone can advise me. I was due to be on a 6pm flight back from Modlin Warsaw to Luton. When I got to the airport at 2pm it was evident there were already problems due to fog. Some delays, some cancellations.
My flight got cancelled around midnight, but not before they had tried to fly in a replacement plane - not sure where ours went! In the end it couldn't land, so they cancelled our flight, and gave us a free ride to a hotel where we stayed for 2 days before flying home.
Several flights seemed to have been bussed to Warsaw Chopin airport - implying they were flying out ok from there.
I wrote to wizzair asking for compensation. Their response says they believe it was extraordinary circumstances and so I'm due nothing.
Are they right? It was heavy fog, but I'm contending that if they flew people out of Chopin, why not my flight?0 -
Hi LBD,
I have recently written to Monarch Airlines exactly 14 days ago today using the MSE letter from the website. Not heard anything yet. Did you use the same letter or have you tried a diferent way?
My letter was a mixture of both what I got on here and my own work.... am happy to post it if you wish, but will tell you now, they will not respond....
Mine was sent late October, they employed the delaying tactic of the claim form which was returned via email and recorded delivery ...they got that on the 2/11/2012...
Today no response from Monarch, court paperwork submitted in December...
if I can be of any help just ask..0 -
...So looks like we the passengers have to pay our own "insurance" fee incase of any delays.
Most moneysavers like you pay a lot less than what it 'actually costs' Ryanair to fly you from A to B, so you are always getting a great deal.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Merry Christmas everyone, it is nice to read that some companies are paying, sadly Monarch are one which is forcing court action...
Three is a new series of Watchdog starting inthe new year, perhaps if we contact them , the publicity minght make them move...0 -

I've just read the article in Martin's email regarding claiming compensation.
We got delayed 5.5 hours from Palma to Durham Tees Valley with BmiBaby.
We only got a sandwich. Looks like we can get compensation and a refund. It was a mechanical problem with the plane so I imagine that's the airlines fault, but even if they deny that we should be entitled to a refund.
Now I understand bmibaby don't operate anymore so who do we claim from? British Airways?0
