Would i be entitled to claim money for this cancellation, i missed a days work as i did not make it home the following day and was therefore not paid.
Any information would be great
I don't think you will be able to claim as it seems your flight was not cancelled, just delayed/rescheduled (despite what you were told at the airport). Charter flights are rarely, if ever actually cancelled, as charter airlines/tour operators HAVE to operate the flight they can't simply cancel as scheduled airlines can.
Did the flight home have the same flight number as the original one? The reason I think it is a delay rather than a cancellation is that the flight the next day was operated to get all the people from the original flight home, so in essence is the same flight. It seems from your description Thomas Cook did provide everything they need to in a delay situation (hotel, meals etc)
For a delay that length though you should be able to claim something on your travel insurance, you will need a confirmation letter from Thomas Cook confirming the delay to your flight.0 -
The thing is the flight was actually cancelled and was not delayed. Upon arrival in Manchester we were handed a letter stating the flight had been cancelled due to a technical fault and then went onto say that because of the flight cancellation we were delayed for 19 hours... I am writing to Thomas Cook to complain about the holiday anyway because it was not as described by there travel agent, so was thinking of doing a seperate letter and mentioning the flight cancellation and see what they say about that..
My travel insurance will pay out £10 for delays over 10 hours, i should of went with the post office :-(0 -
MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. 2 weeks ago we had an 18 hour delay leaving Manchester for Cyprus for technical reasons (I wonder if it was the next flight after Carra?) It was due to leave about 11pm, but delayed (not cancelled - flight number stayed the same) until 5pm the next day. Eurocypria were pretty reasonable about it all - told us as soon as we arrived at the airport & sent us over to an airport hotel where we were given a room for the night, a basic evening meal, breakfast & lunch. The only failing was that they provided no transport to the hotel, even when we specifically asked for this because of the weather (it was walking distance, but pouring with rain). There was no mention of phone calls, but I'll admit I didn't ask.
I think we were treated reasonably under the circumstances, & it seems the airline provide almost everything they should. As far as I understand it, we are not entitled to any compensation for missing a day of the holiday - is that correct?0 -
On the 5th August I was scheduled to leave larnaca airport at 1105. As soon as we checked in we were told there was a delay until 1600. We were handed out a letter to say it was a technical fault, blah blah and givn a 10 euro voucher for food. I initially thought this was very generous, I don't mind airport waiting. (I later discovered that a Burger King meal is av. 8 euros, but what can you expect). At around 1530 a gate number was displayed. This was followed by the poor girls working for another company being harrased by every person on our flight coming and trying to board. It was not our flight. 3 other flights passed through the gate before us. We did not recieve any information except announcements saying 'more information in 45 minutes!'at 1800 we were told to finally go to a different gate. We queued, assuming we were boarding or at least getting information. Instead we were given a 3.50 voucher for 'food'. I assume it was actually for coffee (that I don't drink). This caused uproar and near fistfights. We were fobbed off by people from any company but EUROCYPRIA and apparantely though they had been called they 'wern't answering the phone'. We eventually left the tarmac at 1900, a delay of 8 hours, plus the 2 hours for check in. I am unsure if I can claim as it says I shouldn't have boarded the flight?? And do I need evidence? There were others on the flight taking photos of the display screens, which I didn'tdo, I didn't even keep the letter they gave to us at first. I do not just want to claim comp for the delay but for the shoddy treatment and lack of info (I actually managed to find out why we were delayed through a friend in England - a part had to be flown from Heathrow which they then didn't use. If she knew why was it not possible to tell us??!!) Please help me, I dont know where to start to complain!!0

Under the EU regulations there is no compensation (other than being looked after during the delay) for delay as such, unless the delay is caused by cancellation or overbooking. It doesn't sound as though it was.
Possibly your travel insurance may pay something - but that's normally for 12 hours or more - and you'd need the letter that you haven't kept anyway.
I think you would be wasting your time taking it further, sadly.0 -
My daughter is an archaeology student & was booked through the university to travel to Bolivia so she could take part in a dig out there.
Her flight out of JFK to Miami was delayed by 2 hours so she missed her connection to Santa Cruz & so her internal flight. She had to wait at Miami for 16 1/2 hours for a flight to Santa cruz. She was offered no apology or help. She had to sleep in the airport alone & buy food & drink. She had to rebook & pay for an internal flight from Santa cruz using her mobile phone. She eventually arrived at her destination 36hours late. A journey from hell.
Her flights were all booked on one ticket with American airlines from JFK to Santa Cruz. Is she entittled to any compensation?0 -

I suspect not unfortunately. EU regs do not apply to flights originating in the US (unless they are to the EU) so you get nothing there. I don't think there is a US equivalent.
Would her travel insurance pay anything?
A letter of complaint to AA might elicit something though, but not as of right0 -

I booked a flight with BMI Baby way back in February for a trip to Barcelona this October.
In late July I received an e-mail advising me that the return flight had been cancelled (they said most flights are cancelled due to operational issues and are unavoidable!!)
Lucky me being stranded in Barcelona. I was able to book the return flight with another company but flying to a different airport resulting in an extra £70 taxi fare.
I paid £211.86 for the original return flight but have only received £88.93 refund. The alternative flight has cost me an extra 122 euros so I am out of pocket.
Can the airline just do this and would I be able to claim under the compensation scheme?0
