Compensation for delayed flights Discussion Area

I
I was recently on an Edinburgh to Heathrow flight that eventually arrived into Heathrow 5 mins after all the public transport had stopped (was a Sunday night and it stopped at midnight - had been due to arrive at 8pm) Passengers were advised before leaving that the responsibility was to get to Heathrow which they did all be it 4 hours late. I had a £80 taxi to my hotel.
Public transport at Heathrow is 24x7. Only the tube and trains stop at midnight or so. You may find:

useful for future reference.0 -

thanks for that - I had been hoping to get the last Hex as staying not far from Paddington. Fortunately I was travelling on business and they reimbursed my cab (guess if I had been paying the Oyster card would have been out and I would have been on the bus!)0 -
Sorry to but in here, but I'm new to the boards & I've got an urgent enquiry about a booked return flight that has just been cancelled because bmi are abandoning the route. Probably very stupid, but I can't find the "start new thread" button from here. Help, please !

From your insurance company. You need a letter from the airline confirming the delay.
Airlines are not obliged to pay out for delays per se. Your flight wsn't cancelled, which would have led to a payment, just delayed.
If you complain you may get an ex gratia payment (voucher for a future flight, most probably) but there's no entitlement.0 -
any comments on when a delay becomes a cancellation would be most welcome.
Our flight was, in my opinion cancelled, we where supposed to leave at 14:15 on a wednesday, but eventually got away on a different flight number , at 11 am on Thursday, some 21 hrs later. I believe this to be a cancellation, the airline say" long delay" and hence no compensation?

If it's a different flight number then it's a cancellation0
