Was on a flight from Fuerteventura that took off on time. Smoke in the passenger cabin meant that we landed in Lanzarote and stayed the night there before leaving from Lanzarote the next day on a new plane. Arrived in Manchester about 15 hours later than scheduled.

Would this count as a delayed flight or a cancelled flight?

I doubt if I would have a claim if a cancelled flight as the airline provided accomodation and meals. It was a few years ago and making a claim for a delayed flight would mean quite a bit of searching to find all the exact details. So before doing that it would be good to know if it counted as a delayed flight.

Oh, and got nothing from my insurance as the flight 'took off on time'. It's all in the wording.

Thanks Centipede. I'd better start searching and quickly as it was December 2006.

Two years ago our returning flight from Dominican Republic to Gatwick was delayed due to their being insufficient fuel available. We had to fly firstly to Jamacia to top up the tanks before returning to Gatwick 4 hours late.
We then missed our flight to Inverness and had to wait a further 5 hours and pay an additional £200

Do these delays qualify for compensation?

I''ll ask my brother in law who is a Solicitor what he thinks about both flights and ask him to have a read about it. He's staying with us at the moment .

Obliged if you could post the solicitor comments as my understanding is that Centipede's understanding is 100% correct.
  • can I claim against flyglobespan for 24hr delay from Glasgow to Sanford in 2008?
  • Well done you, what a great idea to go back to the airlines and claim compensation. When the likes of Thomas Cook who are already in strife go under and everyone is left with lost holdiay deposits and no place to go. Or better still the UK has even less airlines due lots of airlines go under because your endorsing claiming back compensation that someone didnt have the noddle to do years ago and the ever increasing cost of UK holidays goes up even more we will have you thank for this.

Yes you were delayed for whatever reason but your sure going to cause more damage than good by getting everyone to complain.
  • Had a look through some previous posts and can't seem to find a post relating to my situation and was wondering if anyone knew the answer.

I flew with Emirates from Newcastle connecting in Dubai and landing in Bankok. The flight that was delayed for about 8 hours was the Dubai to Bankok flight. We missed a full night at my destination having paid for hotel any everything!

Does this still qualify as I had departed from a EU airport regardless of airline and my arrival at my final destination was late? Or does the delay have to occur at a EU airport?

    Any help much appreciated!

You need to select the date in question on flightstats, scroll back through the months/years or insert the date of the flight in the right format and it should bring up the information required.
thanks again ! flight was 3hrs 34 mins delayed but landed 2hrs 48 mins late does this mean no comp for me :-(( ??
