Hi Guys, I'm looking for some advise or guidance please. I flew with Qatar airways, my flight connections were from Edinburgh - Doha - Male where i would be getting another connecting flight on a sea plane to an island in the Maldives.
The flight departing Doha - Male was delayed by 4 hours which meant i missed the last sea plane to get to the island.
It was bad enough being told we could not fly in darkness to arrive on a beautiful exotic island and missing 1 night of our holiday but we had to stay in a hotel overnight costing us $500 and had to pay another $100 for food on top of that too. I am being annoyed with a flight claim company pestering me to take on the case but say I will only get between 300 - £600 each and they will take half of it. Has anyone had something like this happen to them and offer me some help or advice? I would be ever so grateful.

    Thank you in advance
    John.

No delay on EU leg of flight most likely means no claim. so if a decent NWNF are offering you success for half the cost I'd consider it - but no one any good would promise this, IMHO. Who's made the offer?

If you bought your holiday as a package, then the travel agent eould be responsible for compensating you, on a pro rata basis, for the loss of some of your holiday (and maybe consequential losses too - like extra hotel bills). But that's more complex and not a flight delay issues. If you paid by credit card then they might (might) be jointly liable too.

Sounds like you were possibly on the same flight as me - 12 April by any chance?
  • Hi all,

Recently flying to Amsterdam from Edinburgh for a meeting in Utrecht, my flight was delayed for an hour and a half due to weather conditions in Amsterdam.
On arrival and landing in Amsterdam my plane crashed into the ground so hard, the wheels fell off. The plane bounced up, I knew what had happened, and everyone was braised for hitting the tarmac without wheels. We got down, one wing scraping along runway and the propeller coming off after hitting the ground. Fortunately, all safe. Doors quickly opened, horrible smell of burning due to wing and base of plane on runway, stewardesses shouting to get off plane quickly. jumped off plane, run to side of runway. All the emergency services arrive etc.. Stood on runway for 45 minutes. All the children put in Ambulances due to the poor weather. Buses eventually arrive for the rest of the passengers. We are taken into a large room. Another hour passes. Eventually everyone individually has to get interviewed, asking for next of kin, how we feeling etc., etc.. All the hand luggage etc., still out on the runway with the broken plane. Maybe another hour passes and the staff start bringing luggage to the room. Coats, iPads, bags etc. had to be claimed. Everyone reunited with possessions and we are told we can go.
So, I missed my meeting. Not so bad. I was alive. I was still upset, shaken, not doing great and just wanted to get back home to family. I was alone.
On the Monday, I was flying home early in the morning. I started walking to the plane and just couldn't. I was last to walk to the plane, and told the stewardess, I wasn't going on.
I went back to the airport, coffee, and felt much better.
So, I basically booked a bunch of buses via, Utrecht, Borne, Brussels, Antwerp, Calais, London, Sheffield, Newcastle then Edinburgh, then out to the airport to pick up my car, then drove to Aberdeen. 34 hours this took me.
Basically, when I asked MSE if I could have a right to compensation due to flight delay, you said, there was no delay, so no compensation. When I asked for compensation to repay me for my huge bus journey, sadly, no reply.
Can anyone help, or give advice please??? The airline have never been in touch at all.

Whilst a horrible time for you, alas, the delay wascaused byStorm Doris, ie waether so no compensation.
It may seem harsh but ultimately you chose not to take the return flight (understandably) so no compensation due.
    What about your travel insurance?

I would honestly suggest some counselling with a view to getting you back on a plane, A similar incident is very unlikely to happen again during your travelling life time.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply.

This was good old Flybe I think on February 23rd, you should consider asking them to pay for the counselling. They will have insurance and it may well cover the cost. A good airline would also cover the cost of the return, but legally no obligation. I fully understand your reluctance to fly so soon after that event, particularly on an identical aircraft, two failed attempts to land in a storm with the even smaller (49 seater) plane seemingly out of control made me decide not to return later that day. It cost me £100 for a days hire of a car and a 250 mile road journey through a snow storm with no water in the washer unit....

Still we both lived to fight another day and after events this week, we need to keep some things in context

Sounds to me like negligence. Why did the pilot choose to land in such atrocious conditions and then make a dog's breakfast of it? Why not wait longer or else divert?

I sincerely hope that Flybe would, at the very least, pay your costs. It's the minimum any decent airline could do.

    Good luck.
