Have you checked Co Op to see if they would cover? Policy is £5000, and they were one of the best policies for my 'senior'(ish) GSD, as there was no % excess for his age.

I've just moved Maisie there - £26 / month (which was only just over what I paid Axa)
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

Thanks co-op only do up to 8 yrs old
  • Sorry so they do - and why I had to do it now for Maisie & not wait until her renewal arrives (she's 8 beg Oct & renewal not till end Nov)

Direct line may be worth a shot - they take pets up to age of 11 depending on breed

I have a website which provides full details of all pet insurance policies available in the UK..

There are many pet insurance companies who will insure pets of any age including...

Argos, Homebase, John Lewis, LV=, More Than, Tesco, UIS, Buddies, Computerquote, Hastings, Paws and Claws, PDSA, Pets at Home, Protect my Bubble, Purely Pets, Animal Friends.

Do shop around because they vary a lot on price.. which depends on breed, postcode and age.

Accident and Injury only policies are also widely available... (some of these include third party liability... ). Here is a list http://www.pet-insurance-surveys.co.uk/pet-insurance-policies/policies-by-type/?accident_only

    Hope this is useful.

Thanks - it looks like The AA will insure her despite her age.
£5000 a year for life for same price as axa - yes I know her current conditions wont be covered but at least she will be covered for new things. They also do a cheaper £3000 a year one but I know £3000 is not much when emergency/specialist vets are involved.
So gonna see what happen over the next couple of days and then go with AA if no luck with this new company

If you decide to go with AA please make sure you read the small print first.. as there is stuff in their small print you need to be aware of before taking out the policy (overweight clause, out of hours clause etc)... also note that unlike the AXA policy you will have to pay 20% of all vet fees if you pet is over 8.

Also note that the AA policy is NOT £5,000 per year... it is £5,000 per condition over your pet's lifetime.

So glad I moved my 9 year old cat (no claims) over to Argos Platinum. The cover is cheaper per month and superior to Axa in some respects!

NCI just called me back to say that as millie has existing conditions her files have been sent to the underwriters to check if they even want to cover her and if they do then to calculate the premiums which will apparently be a lot higher then what we pay now ( we pay £53 now )
So sounds like there is no guarantee that new company will actually accept dogs with pre-existing conditions despite what they said.

So So confused about what to do and who to go for.
I did see the 20% with AA which is ok - our other dog has that as well when she reached 9
I thought the AA renewable was £5000 every year ? Will have to read into it further. Even thinking of just getting the £3000 one as like I said we would not want to do anything to drastic to her.
Just feel like a bit of a death sentence to her right now which is a horrid feeling , if only we were rich and did not have to worry about pet insurance LOL
  • Mmmmm not good:(

I would phone Axa again & ask for clarification of what the terms of transfer were

From what I remember (don't have the letter to hand ATM) the new co had to take on everyone who wanted to transfer incl people with pets with pre-existing conditions

Otherwise Taxa could end up in the SME pile of **** that Halifax & a couple of others did

A call to the ombudsman might not go amiss either

Sadly there is no guarantee on the cover they will offer, the t&cs which is my gripe
