  • If you're that close to renewal - and haven't had either a quote from the new co or a renewal certificate from Axa, I think you need to phone them to find out what's happening!

The lack of information is absolutely disgusting

Totally agree ... phone them! It is now it is a requirement under the General Insurance Standards Council's Code that firms should notify you about renewals "in good time". This normally means about a month in advance!

Thanks will call tomorrow - I guess its Axa I need to call ?
the letter from June telling us we are no longer insured by them from 1st sept when the dogs renew has no contact details of the new company just the name and saying we dont need to do anything as company will contact us with the quote etc.
I honestly imagine axa will just say not their problem and goodbye leaving us in the lurch sadly :(
Im pretty crap at being all firm as well LOL but will try , I never know quite what to say.
If we are no longer insured by them and this new company is not happening is there anything we can actually do ?
This could potentially mean the difference in treatment for the dogs or put to sleep ( eg when our last dog got sick it cost £4000 in one week which we could do cause of pet insurance but obviously without pet insurance we could not do that again )
Thank god our other dog is with a different company ( who is pricey at £95 a month for a 9 yrs old cross breed but at least we have the insurance )

Ahhhhh you didn't say before you'd had a letter from Axa stating you wouldn't be covered from renewal time ........

If you've not heard from new co & have no contact details - phone Axa and get a number from them

AFAIK new co should offer a quote for all - but obviously I have no idea what the T&Cs or price could be which is what my gripe is (apparently there is a guarantee to take people on - but on what cover level & price is anyone's guess)

I have to say I certainly wouldn't be paying £95 / month for a 9yo dog - I personally wouldn't go to 'drastic' measures at that age & would have them on an Accident & Injury Policy and save the other £90 / month (that would quickly add up!)

The A&I policy & saving the rest might be an option if the quote is too expensive - but fingers crossed it won't be

Let us know how you get on

So far none the wiser - called Axa who said its very odd and they dont know why as should have been here approx 4 weeks before renewal.
Axa then put me on hold for 20 mins while they tried to contact this new company but they could not make contact as no one picked up.
So the lady told me she will keep trying and then call me back this afternoon with whatever she can find out.
Not a good start to it all is it and already distrust this new company and I bet we will be left in the lurch.
I will have to take out accident and injury for her ( does that come with 3rd party liability as well ? ) and can I get it for her despite her age ( 10.5 yrs old )

About the 9 yrs old - I know its a lot but she sadly suffer from a few conditions like pancreatitis and cruciate problems so I really do need the insurance as it can cost £1000's a year - despite being 9 she acts like 2 yrs old so I have no concerns doing something drastic with her ( where as the 10.5 yrs old act very much her age and it is limited what we would put her through as she is acting old and also quite nervy )

I never actually knew about Accident and Injury only so that is very handy.

ps our Axa policy is £55 a month so we are paying £150 a month for 2 insurance's which is mad I know

Thanks - it looks like The AA will insure her despite her age.
£5000 a year for life for same price as axa - yes I know her current conditions wont be covered but at least she will be covered for new things. They also do a cheaper £3000 a year one but I know £3000 is not much when emergency/specialist vets are involved.
So gonna see what happen over the next couple of days and then go with AA if no luck with this new company
  • Not good re current axa policy . they really don't seem to have aclue what is going on!

Iamconfused why you wpuldtakeanew olicycosting the same as your current one - with current condition s excluded when you say the dog is old& you wouldn't put her through extensive treatment

Dogs Trust membership is I believe.£12.50 for oaps etc.so that.might be handy for some

Mainly cause im worried about cost.
Our last dog started coughing one day and it cost £4000 in 4 days with a specialist to find out it was lung cancer ( could have been something easily treatable like lung worms/pneumonia but we had to find out )
We did not have treatment and had him put to sleep but I would have felt terrible had we put him to sleep without knowing what it was as I would always have done the "what if"
I just dont want to stand in a position where it might be something easily treatable but not have the money to find out if it is or not.
The conditions she has now is not something we are likely to claim for again ( horners syndrome and artheritis and skin issues )
They are very much part of our family and we would want to do the very best we can for them - so even thou we would not put her through extensive treatments or surgeries we would still want to be in a position to do diagnostics etc.

Needless to say have not heard back from axa and doubt I will somehow.
Wonder if there will be another court case when everyone find out they are not covered , we are obviously one of the first due to be transferred as our renewal is just at change over dates.

Talked to NCI the new insurers and apparently there has been some !!!! up ( her words ) and they dont have any of the policies and the ones that were sent out were apparently wrong so had to be re-called.
She will call back one of the next days when she has talked to a manager.
So we are well and truly left hanging at the last minute
