AXA pulling out of pet insurance

My dog is 8 years old and no pre-existing conditions, never had to visit vet for anything other than yearly boosters and recently pet passport.
I did consider moving her recently due to no pre-existing but think I will see how things go."
My dog is also 8 years old and AXA have just renewed my policy. I am worried though as the NCI website won't accept new policies for dogs aged 9 (or 7 for some breeds).
Do we know if AXA has made an agreement for them to take over policies with animals of this age?
Also will the new policy be for life or just a one off 12 months? Very worrying.0 -

If the maximum amount (with more on top of that being paid for by the owner) is claimed year on year with multiple operations / other conditions being claimed for, then of course the premiums will rise - and by huge amounts ...
The other alternative for them would've been to cancel the policy (which they are also entitled to do) ... which would you have preferred?
It still doesn't change the fact More Than are underwritten by RSA who I personally wouldn't chose to have as underwriter from past experiences with them
Don't know where you did your maths classes, but £117 to £406 is pretty much a 350% increase (£117 x 3.5 = £409.50).
Your other point is ridiculous...a lifelong policy should remain affordable regardless of claims. That's the point of insurance, and it is paid for from the countless other people who make no claims.
The fact that Animal Friends remain on that comparison website makes that website irrelevant. Moreover, the fact that More Than rate higher in customer reviews over the last 12 months than 70% of the companies on that website just compounds the irrelevance.0 -
Also, and this makes me laugh, I find it interesting that you put so much faith in the comparison website and then state RSA is so bad.
I looked at the companies listed, in order. After Petplan, the first three are John Lewis, M&S and Argos. Guess who underwrites their policies?
Go on, guess.....
I'm sure more on there are as well, but I stopped after the first three.0 -
I would never insure with any of those you've mentioned because they are underwritten by RSA same as more than, who I also won't insure with
Personally I prefer to do my own research and will visit several comparison website before making any decisions and still take what I've read with a pinch of salt
When you start reading reviews you have no idea how many people will leave a bad one saying the company hasn't paid out etc etc when they've not read the T&Cs properly!Don't know where you did your maths classes, but £117 to £406 is pretty much a 350% increase (£117 x 3.5 = £409.50).
Certainly don't know where you did your maths classes as to work out a percentage increase you ADD the amount not multiply
£117 + 247.01% = £406
Or to do it another way
Take the new figure (£406), subtract the old figure (£117) which gives you the difference (£289)
Divide the increase (£289) by the original figure (£117) and multiply by 100
= 247.01% increase
Whilst we would all like to think cover should be provided at a reasonable cost no matter what is claimed, sadly that's not life - this doesn't only apply to pet insurance - look at all the unfortunate people who've been flooded multiple times (and sometimes only once) who've had their premiums put up to silly amounts OR in some cases cancelled and they can't now get cover
Insurers will draw the line somewhere as to what they deem affordable and a good risk - there is no obligation on them to continue cover or what they can set their premiums atGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Yes, the same someone who leaves Animal Friends on his website despite the fact that they have just increased a customer's premium by 350% to over £400 per month (no, you didn't read that wrong).
The same someone who still claims that he lists only ethical companies despite the above.
I'll discard his views thank you very much.
Increase to, and increase by, are two different things.
It increased to £406, but it increased by £289.
So equally, it may have increased to 350% of the original premium, but it only increased by 250%

mmm odd how ian1969uk went strangely quiet after the sarcasm of stating my maths was wrong when in fact it was his ...
Anyway, I moved Maisie to the Coop insurance last night
I had a letter from Axa asking for my permission to pass on my details to the new company for her renewal (November)
I can't wait that long to know the T&Cs, price & cover - she's 8 in October & a lot of insurers won't take on new pets over that age / apply % of costs etc so if I waited & the new one wasn't suitable - we'd be totally ......
Not had any letters / renewals through for the cats - both renew in Sept
Phoned Axa yesterday & they don't know if they'll renew with them or with the new company
Seems absolutely ludicrous that they don't yet seem able to say that up to x date, it's them & then from y date the new company
Doesn't leave people much time to make decisions ...... not impressedGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I really don't understand insurance - I did a quote for Maisie with the Coop (taken out) which was within £1 of what I pay Axa (cover £5k instead of £7k but not an issue for me)
However, I also did a quote for the cats which was more than double what I pay Axa (again for lower cover)so I didn't take it out
I was going to wait & see what happens with their policies (due to renewal 20 Sept) but started worrying about what if the cover is too low / premiums too high etc and TBH I don't really want to be with a company I know nothing about!
Just done a couple of quotes for the cats - few were a lot cheaper but I'd not heard of them or wouldn't go with them
Then tried Direct Line ...... my car & house insurance are with them so do get a bit of an extra discount & there's a healthy 1st year discount so I know it will increase next year BUT it's within £1 of the Axa policy (less!) and cover is £6k so fine
Also got £25 cashback :money:

Hi. We've been paying petplan for 5 years now. Our cat is 6 (she came to us as a dumped cat from a rescue centre aged 1). We have never claimed for her (touch wood long may it continue) and she is healthy (ditto). She is up to date with all jags.
Our monthly rate has jumped to over £15 a month. This seems very high, it's ridiculous they refuse to offer discounts for 'no claims' and loyal customers.
I'm open to looking around at other companies however it's a minefield. I know petplan do life cover so had been reluctant to change now after 5 years.. and am always very happy to pay insurance for our girl.
Can anyone offer advice about if there was a trustworthy company we could change to? We'll obviously do our own comparison however, it's really hard to know who to trust. I just feel £15 (and rising) each year, is high?
Appreciate thoughts and comments.0 -
View - you might be better starting a new thread as a lot of people won't look at this one as it relates to Axa & has been on the go quite a long time
TBH £15/month isn't bad for PetPlan
Mia is also 6 and I've managed to get both her & Archie (9) covered with Direct Line for £18 / month:T (lifetime, £6k / year)
That incl a healthy 1st year discount though so it will jump next year BUT, even after adding that on for an idea of how much it will jump to, it's still £14 / month LESS than the Co*op quoted for them
Might be worth a tryGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
