  • I have just made these for the first time. Now my only problem is not eating anymore so there are some left for the boys. They are going to go down very well after school. Thanks, Twink!

    Hi there
Made these a couple of weeks ago and although they were absolutely gorgeous I found them a bit too sweet (savoury tooth me!!) Do you think it would be ok to reduce the amount of sugar or syrup??
I did use value brand syrup from Asdas - do you think that may have been the problem??
    Thanks as ever

i think you could cut down on the sugar some posters have done that but the value syrup might have been sweeter, i have made them with honey which is nice or you could use brown sugar but look back a page or two as someone forgot the sugar and they were ok

I cut the sugar down by about half as my mum is diabetic, must say they are always fine with the reduced amount of sugar. Can't comment on the syrup as I always use Lyle's.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I bought a couple of bags of Allinson Oatmill bread flour today as it was reduced to 34p a bag.

Can you use bread flour instead of normal?

I thought I may be able to use this for hobnobs if I reduce the oats slightly.

    These are the ingredients:

Wheat, Flaked Oats, Oat Bran, Pinhead Oatmeal and Gluten

I have made my twinks for the first time and very nice they are too. I bought my oats in sainsburys 81p a kg or 86p for 1.5kg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and not of offer or anything. Work that one out!

The 81p one is Scottish Porridge Oats, the bigger 86p one is just Porridge Oats.

Not sure what the difference is, I assume Scottish is a bette quality?

not sure if you can use bread flour or not but worth a go maybe and i use asdas smartprice porridge oats, a big bag for about 67p i think or they have smaller bags for 25p
  • asda smart price oats 25p for 1kg. guess what i've made tonight???:D

when i first made them i misread the instructions and melted the sugar with the butter. i don't know but i think this might make the flavour even nicer and always make them this way now.

Insert From Martin... Twink's World Famous (well MSE Famous Hobnob recipe)

MoneySaver Twink's Hobnob recipe has been tried, tested and heartily recommended by many MoneySavers its meant to be CHEAP and YUM (i've not tried it yet).

It was originally posted in the fourth post below, but to make it easier I've copied it here... and I do apologise for not including it in the favourite biscuit poll

If you want to thank Twink for the recipe go to post number 4 and click thanks
    Hobnob Recipe

    Ingredients

    8oz sr flour
    8oz sugar
    8oz porridge oats
    8oz margarine
    1tbsp golden syrup
    1tbsp hot water
    1/2 tsp bic soda

    Instructions

Mix the flour, oats and sugar, melt marg, syrup and water in a pan. Stir in bic soda and add to dry mix.

Then mix well and make into smallish balls which you then put on a greased tray and flatten slightly with a fork. Put in the oven at 180 degrees C for 15 mins... and cool on the tray. The aim is to get them golden in the oven not brown.

    Back to the original post....
