I went to the docs two years ago because I was feeling cream-crackered all the time and if I sat still long enough could nap on a washing line!!
He sent me off a for a full range of blood tests and was able to tell me from the results - that I was definitely into the menopause. He even said there was a test that you could buy that would indicate how many ovulations/periods you would have left (roughly speaking) I decided against that - the thought of knowing that I would be suffering for the next x-number of years would be enough to send me off my trolley.
To date I have managed to ride out the hot flushes, can cope with washing my hair every other day rather than everyday due to drier skin/hair, been sent for 3 breast scans because of cysts which have all thankfully been nothing to worry about.
But I do not like the cold and damp feeling left after the said hot flushes - the urge to throw off whatever I'm wearing has been hard to resist while suffering hot flushes - which at times occur every 20 minutes or so when at other times nothing happens for days and weeks at a time. but nothing serious enough to make me think I should go on HRT which I think may alleviate the symptoms but just put off the evil moment. I'd rather suffer just the once than several times as friends have had to do.
The younger girls in my office just laugh it off but will they laugh it off when it's their turn?:p

I'm approaching 50 and was hoping that my periods would become less frequent, not more.
Has anyone else had more frequent periods?
Mine just stopped when I was 47 with no change beforehand. After six months my GP did blood tests which showed I was menopausal. I took HRT and ironically now I'm reducing it my periods are the heaviest they've ever been.:eek:Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

No, I missed 3 or 4 when I was about 48 then I had a whole gap of 13 months before I had another one. Then I had two consecutively. Ive now been period free for 14 months.
I'd always had regular periods so to miss them was quite unusual. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

44/45 I had a few very heavy ones (I was always light). About this time I started feeling bad, hot flushes, lack of sleep, feeling tired, feeling old (!!!!), feeling like everything was a huge effort & it took everything to keep on top of my (busy & at times stressful) job & I had nothing left over in the tank for my personal life.
Then they just stopped. After about 8 months I went to my GP & was tested, I was well into it (should have mentioned I was tested at early 44 as part of a raft of tests & was normal. So somewhere between tests at 44 & second test at 45 I went from normal to well into it & periods fully stopped!
Talk about a hormone plunge.
Anyway the hrt works a treat & the hot flushes stopped, my sleep returned & I feel like me again :-)
I feel in control again :-)0 -
my periods increased, i was having them last 2 weeks, off a few days then back again. in the end i had an ablation which stopped them completely yaaay
then the hot flushes started. ugh 8 or 9 a day and all thru the night, i truly felt like i would pass out. despite saying i never would take HRT i felt so crap i gave in and have been on it about 10 months.
sometimes i feel like shouting like a teen " its just not fair"!!!!!!!!!!When you know better you do better0 -
