The Mad, Bad Menopause Thread

  • Sorry I'm late. OMG, the menopause, don't get me started. Oh, OK, get me started...

I'm now going through it for, let me see, the 4th time. It all started in September 2011 (age 50), when I was diagnosed with fibroids and given a course of Zoladex injections to reduce the size of them. Instant menopause, lasting for the 6 month course. At my age, of course, there was every chance that the 'real' menopause would kick in during the 6 months, but no - everything returned to normal, hot flushes and night sweats stopped, periods started again, but sadly the fibroids also came back. Fibroids reduce in size after the menopause, so I was kind of hoping this would happen, as at this point I was trying very hard to avoid having to have a hysterectomy.

So off I trotted to the gynae again, and was put on a second course of Zoladex - menopause number 2. By now we're into 2013 and I'm 52. This course ended in August, periods returned and the fibroid made me look 6 months pregnant. It also hurt, which was unusual. Emergency visit to the gynae, and we agreed a hysterectomy was the way forward. He suggested a couple of months more of the Zoladex, to reduce the fibroid so that he could operate. Menopause number 3.

I had a sub-total hys, and he was able to conserve my ovaries - so following the op I was totally free of menopause symptoms. That was in October 2013. Now, 3 months post-op, and aged 53, I finally appear to be doing it for real (menopause number 4). Nothing too drastic - no hot flushes, but the odd night sweats. And about time too!!!

Do you really mean a sub-total hysterectomy as that means leaving the cervix behind and is nothing to do with the ovaries?

  • Good evening ladies

I find myself on this thread given the fact that yesterday, I almost lost my job

Total irrational behaviour on my part, extreme paranoia, throwing hissy fits to the point of becoming very childish, insomnia, emotional with outbursts of crying and sobbing - need i go on ?!

I take low dosage HRT (1mg) just to control the mood swings and hot flushes.

Yesterday I challenged my Manager on a few 'things' and he was furious. I hate to admit that I lost my temper. My entire persona changes and I'm just awash with panic attacks and I'm nothing short of a raving loon.

I am terrified of losing my job but I just can't seem to keep my trap shut !

Today I am full of remorse, and feeling extremely sorry for myself :(

Get in and see your manager, make your apologies and tell them why you are acting as you are. Then make an appointment at the docs and tell the doc just exactly what's happening, hopefully they will either up your dose of HRT or suggest something else. Good luck, the menopause is the worst phase (for me) of a woman's life. It's worse than puberty and pregnancy and seems to go on forever.......:(

I've been wondering if I'm starting the menopause, got doc apt this afternoon so really glad I found this thread.

Periods still the same with a breakthrough one last month but I take the pill so can that hide things?

Feel like crying all the time, night sweats (though they come and go). Read somewhere that another system is brittle nails...got them (recently).

it all fits...just need the docs appointment to make sure.

I'm starting to reduce my HRT so hopefully the sweats etc won't be back with a vengeance! Any tips?

I had a full hysterectomy at 40years, I had ovarian cancer, luckily it was found early, and caught early, so no further action was needed, I am on HRT, have put on loads weight, feel awful, get sweats, it's been 18months since the big OP, I've been back to doctor many times saying that I don't think I'm on right HRt at, and all they say is give it another year and see how u feel, I hate myself right now, just wanna curl up in a ball in a corner and cry.
I have been running for about 8 months as I thought that would help with the weig issues, but I can't shift any, been on Atkins diet, alsorts, I know it's the hrt tablets but my doctors won't do anything,
I am running a half marathon in march my first ever one for a charity, but at the mo don't know if I will have the humpf to do it.
Dont forget that little Thanks button , only takes a sec
