Morning ladies. Hope you're all having a great week.

I just have a quick question, possibly a bit TMI but I guess this is the kind of subject where over sharing is inevitable!:o

Has anyone else recently come off hormonal contraception (I had a nexplanon out a couple of weeks ago) and been really horny? I have read that the synthetic hormones can suppress your drive but I didn't expect it to bounce back so strong. I contemplated waking OH up in the middle of the night for a go the other day!

Hi Wangdoodle, it's been a long time since I was on any hormone contraceptive (about 3 years), but one of the reasons I came off was because I felt like it muted me emtionally. I didn't get emotional highs or lows and my drive was a bit meh.

It definately made a difference to me in a lot of ways, I'm more "female" at different times of the month and my drive is healthy but I wouldn't go back to how it was before it just didn't feel right.

As for me another week rolls around and I'm still counting down the days/weeks/months until December. We're nearly into August which means I have 4 more cycles before I can offically say we are TTC, which when I say it like that does sound quite so bad :D I've been doing a lot of pre-ttc reading which is helping my broodiness but I quite fancy a fictional ttc read, can anyone recommend anything?
Some times you have to hold back to go forward to where you want to be.

There's no such thing as TMI on these threads! And my answer to your question is yes. I stopped using hormonal contraception last autumn (wow I can't believe it's been almost a year!) and it definitely had an effect on me. I stopped due to experiencing some unwanted side effects including pretty awful headaches that lasted several days at a time though - while experiencing the side effects it was hard to feel up for anything!

anna - we use condoms now. If you're thinking about what contraception to use, the fpa website is a really good source of information.

Thanks for your replies ilovelondontown and browneyedbazzi I feel like less of a pervert now!

anna_otter we are just using condoms now. Lots and lots of condoms :o My OH doesn't mind them and it makes very little difference to me other than it's easier to, ahem, "deal with" afterwards

Quick question- hope you dont mind me asking- I know everyone is different but was just wondering:

When you came of the pill you would have had your normal bleed, then can you remember when their next bleed was?

    hey wangdoodle!!!!!!

Yes - i came off about a year ago and the OH was HORRIFIED!!!!!!!! He didn't want to come near me with a bargepole because you know, he's so virile he thought just looking at me would make me pregnant :rotfl: but we do use condoms and just play it safe but it did affect me in making me want him much more!!!!

But now I feel so much better not being reliant on drugs - I didn't like the idea of messing with my body by staying on contraception and why should I? Men don't have to do it!! :) So we're just sensible and making sure we're not too reckless and make something happen before we're ready!

So - yes, be careful as always but if you're living in a loving relationship get rid! As I say - it took my body a whole year before I had my first 'visit' after coming off, so I'm glad I did and didn't wait otherwise the TTC could be a few more years away.

Good luck holding off TTC!!

Thanks cottage_retreatist I agree it's nice to be free of the drugs. Glad you've got your cycles back but eek  that it took so long. Hope it doesn't take long for me or I'll go through the menopause before I get pg, I'm getting on a bit! We were hoping to TTC in 6 months or so.

Luckily my OH doesn't seem to object to being constantly molested. He's been quite pliable!

My cycle went right back to what it was before I started hormonal contraceptive straight away - I had the withdrawal bleed as normal then my first 'real' period 30 days later. It's been pretty consistent since although I have had one longer cycle (33 days) and one shorter (28 days).

Same for me, I went back to 'normal' straight away but I had only been on the pill 6 months
