Those who are waiting to TTC (New Thread)

Hi guys,
Really glad I found this thread. Have had a quick skim through of the first few and last few pages. Good luck to you all!
My TTC Stats:
My Age/Partners age: 24/26
Time together: 9 years (married 10 months)
What are you waiting for?!: A teensy bit more time together as a married couple but mostly for me to work for another school year (Sep 14 - Jul 15) as I am still in my Newly Qualified Teacher year and would ideally like to do two full years teaching before having children of my own. A] because it took me five years to train! and B] because I would like to take some time off of work with baba and two years will look better on the CV when I do decide to return!
When will you be TTC? September 2014 onwards
Any preTTC prep? Implant being removed 29th May 2014, will will start pre-conception vitamins, cut out caffeine and cut out alcohol then too. I have already lost 9lbs to reach my personal goal weight of 9st, started exercising more and have really limited processed foods. I'm feeling much healthier!
I'm taking my mind off TTC by... looking forward to our UK cottage break in August, having date nights with my lovely hubby and trying to be happy for (not jealous of!) my pregnant sister in law! Hubby has also hinted at a med break Oct 2014 so booking this would be a lovely distractionDespite my yearning desire for an abroad holiday, we are trying to save really hard. Once the 0% CC is payed off in June (had to buy a car after ours died
) over 25% of our combined income will be saved each month to make sure we have a nice baby fund and enough of a cushion for me to take some time before returning to work. Crazily hoping to get up to £3k by Sep 2014 then aim for £6k by Sep 2015!
The thing I am most unsure of is whether from May 29th to be actively NOT trying e.g. using condoms, waiting for a few normal periods to see how my cycle is after using the implant, and really waiting until Sept 2014 to start trying or whether to be NPNT, Not Preventing Not Trying and sort of just leave it to the powers that be and see what happens. Hubby would be over the moon to find out I was expecting and I am beginning to feel that I cannot tolerate the wait to TTC, let alone when we are really trying! I hate to think it will take us years to conceive then I really will wish I had started as soon as possible! However if we fell incredibly super quick e.g. July I would have to leave work February time, only having done two terms at school. Aaagh! Decisions, decisions.

welcome kansaskitty!
I would talk to your doctor about it wrt to your implant, as I was originally going to come off the pill, and wait atleast one cycle before TTC (as I thought that was the sensible thing to do) but my Doc has advised me that more people conceive from trying straight away after coming off the pill, whereas if you leave it a cycle, it can be a bit harder (something to do with your body going into hormone overdrive the first cycle) - so yeah, have a chat with your doctor!
Also it's cool to see someone my age here - I was worried as everyone on the TTC thread (which I totatlly lurk ;-) ) seems really grown up (I don't mean to say old, but I'm kind of immature LOL)
The wait is soooo hard. I'm kind of throwing myself into wedding planning every time I start thinking about it, although The Boss and I were discussing things last night, and I mentioned that I only had 4 more pill cycles, and he got this gooey look on his face, the same one he gets when he tries not to be excited about us getting married LOL. So today, I can't think of anything but!
Also congrats on nearly getting through your NQT year! Just a half term and a bit to go! What age/subject do you teach?Officially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A0 -

Hi tillyenna, thanks for your reply. I teach Reception and I'll be taking over the Nursery from September, I'm honoured to be given the privilege but a bit scared of the responsibility!
Ok Thankyou for the advice, I will talk to my GP. I am also just looking forward to being off of contraception, I've been on it almost ten years and I am interested to see who I'll be without it! Maybe I'll be really slim and not grumpy at all!

ooooh teaching littlies! I love it (although I think I'd find it impossible to bear in this waiting stage LOL). (Everyone has said I should be a teacher, and reception is the age I'd teach if I was... but my mam's a teacher, so I know the paperwork and burocracy involved, plus the ridiculous hours, so I've stayed WELL AWAY LOL)
I have this vague hope that coming off the pill will make me super skinny again, although I've read other threads about people having terrible acne after coming off it - which I'm seriously hoping doesn't happen! I'd say maybe I'll be less grumpy, but I'm pretty sure that's all me ;-)
Wedding is in September, 4 months away now... eeek! Super excited to be going to be married to The Boss... dreading the actual wedding. -.- but we have a nice staycation honeymoon planned, going home, locking the doors, not seeing anyone for a week... oh, and maybe practising a bit for this baby ;-)Officially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A0 -
Hello everyone
Our original plans were to start ttc now but we're moving house at the end of the year and i'm taking finance exams through my work so now isnt right.
We've pushed back until we're in the new house having a) already got the new mortgage without dependants and b) me being nearly finished exam wise so even if i got pregnant at Christmas i'd only be 5 months pregnant for my final exams.
Strange thing is although I want a baby so much, the decision to push back was suprisingly easy to make. Perhaps it's because we can offer so much more in 2015.
Anyway more long term lingering for me!:rudolf: DF by Xmas 2018: #83 £8,250/£15,000 55% :rudolf:

Jonesy - I guess it is easier to wait when you know that it'll be better for the baby. Still frustrating thoughThere is hope for us yet0

Oh lord. I have the opposite! In my mind I was thinking end of the year. Hubby wants to start now ... This is the man who didn't even want a baby in the first place ... I am definately not ready now. The sickness was bad and I can't cope with that and a todder so will not even think about it until she is after 2. (That said I am charting already for when my fertile times are LOL)0

I've just applied to start a 2 year FE course, so if I'm accepted it'll be a little longer than I thought before we start ttc. Maybe 15-18months before I stop the pill. I was initially thinking towards the end of this year. However it will be after the fix has finished on our mortgage so we should be able to move/remortgage without dependants/maternity pay to worry about and have some time to save a bit more which seems like the sensible option, although not always the fun one!
Tilylenna, I'm also in my early 20's! Sometimes feel like it's really young when lots of people ttc seem to be in their mid 30s0 -

Haha I know, I'm sure when I move from Reception to Nursery the baby fever will hit the highest point, along with pregnant colleagues and my sister in law due in Sept, aargh! Good luck with the wedding, why are you dreading it!? Family issues? I had a real family blowup about a week before (my real dad refused to come) and was very worried but it truly was the best day of my life and I had a blast! One year wedding anniv coming up in July, I can't believe it! Your staycation honeymoon sounds perfect by the way!Hello everyone

I really like what you said at the end, waiting is okay because you're waiting to give long-wished-for-baby a better life and more stability. Good luck in your new house and for your exams!I've just applied to start a 2 year FE course, so if I'm accepted it'll be a little longer than I thought before we start ttc. Maybe 15-18months before I stop the pill. I was initially thinking towards the end of this year. It does seem like the sensible option, well done you. Hope you don't feel too down about it being longer to start TTC, we're here if you need us! I am also 24 and hubby is 26, he's very keen to have children soon and he keeps referring to himself as 'almost 30' but I keep saying 'hey I'm still six years away from 30 buddy'!
After posting on this thread it made me realise I do need to have a serious think about what I want, do I want a baby because my SIL is preggo or because it is the right time for our family? Or because I know my husband would love one? I think the answer is that we really DO want one, and the time is okay (I didn't put right because is it ever 'right'!?) now, we've been together 9 years, married almost a year, owned our own home for 3 years, financially we're stable and saving for a baby so in the time it would take us to TTC and bake a baby we'd probably be about right! The only thing stopping us is my 'guilt' over not working a full two years/letting the school down if we fell immediately. It all came to a bit of a head when hubby said 'One day you'll have to decide whether it's worth putting your work before your family' and I thought then well he obviously means that day is now in his head and heart or he wouldn't have said it. I got myself all worked up and silly and thought 'well I'll toss a coin, to a) prevent May-Sept and try from Oct, or b) to let nature take it's course from May onwards and then really try from Oct', because I'd know which side I would hope the coin would land on and I'd have my true decision there... then I just thought STOP! being silly and tossing coins and speak to your husband, the man you love about such a big family decision, you massive weird control freak woman! So we have decided that when the implant comes out on May 29th we're just going to 'ignore' it and keep making love as we normally would, not stress, not try and not prevent! Then if nothing has happened by December time we'll try charting, ovulation prediction kits, all the scary stressful 'mumsnet' stuff, proper TRYING craziness.
Wow that was a long post! I feel crazy! But happy with our decision.:heartsmil Stay-at-home-mummy of two, pinching the pennies but loving it! :heartsmilSpreadsheeter, piggybanker, envelope-system user!

I am 33 this year. If I had my time again (was 30 when I had Jess) then I would have started ttcing mid 20's. Your not too young where by your only 20/21 or something but your also not shifting towards that scary 30! But thats just my opinion0
