  • Apart from the potential sympathetic "generosity" if they allow you to donwgrade earlier, I believe you used to be able to only downgrade on T-Mobile after 11 months and Vodafone after 6 on 12 month contracts, which might be better than nothing. However, I think I came across a post recently that said Vodafone was 9 months on a 12.

Does anyone know if mobileconnections/ dailamobile have actually gone into liquidation yet or not? Companies house seem to have no information to say that…

I was trying to find out about this as well, spoke to the "official liquidator" who deals with company liquidations, and he didn't have any listing for them, and trading standards are clueless as well.

However, I've been speaking to a company called "Dextra" who are dealing with the cashback fallout from this group (including mobilephonesontheweb that I'm with) and they said that an administrator has now been appointed.

They gave me the name "Tennan" but after extensive googling, and a few wrong numbers, I can't find any record of them. Apparently, they are going to contact everyone who has registered their details by tomorrow with an update.

So, presumably, if you beleive these Dextra people, the group has appointed an administrator, but are not officially in liquidation (but are heading that way)

I'm torn as to what to do, because I don't want to be the first to breach my contract with MPOTW. If I hear from Tennan, I'll post an update here.

    Any one heard any more?

    Try Tenon Group
  • That's what I thought, but the guy spelt it out for me. Perhaps he can't spell. I'll make some enquiries with Tenon.

    Thanks

  • Hi Folks,

Only just discovered this thread and haven't got time to read it all.

Basically Mobile Connections Online have only paid me one month's cashback (at the end of May) out of the six they should've paid by now despite numerous letters, phonecalls, emails and threats. I came on here to look at options of what to do next but it's looking like they're pretty much bust right?

So am I right in thinking there's no real point in continuing to chase up the cashback and a better option is to try and cancel/downgrade our contracts? My contract gives me way more free calls and texts than I need (T-mobile Flext 35 (18 month) with £180 credit each month) but I'm willing to grin and bear it if necessary. Funny thing is, Mobile Connections accidentally initially put me on the 12 month contract and I battled with them to get it changed (as the 18 month one had better cashback and more inclusive credit) - wished I hadn't bothered now!!

Good luck folks and any advice welcome.

Spoke to Tenon Group Administrators who have told me that chances of getting money back are Slim to Nil, and Slim 'just left town'

Networks are playing hard ball! Best you will get out of orange is reducing to min tarriff of £20 on 18th contract

Best you get from T-mombile is lowest Flext plan plus five pound discount on 12 mth contract. £20

Looks like we are well and truely stuffed so unless you want bad credit we just have to bite the bullet and swallow hard.

  • Yup, same news here.

Vodafone not interested in the least, but allegedly have established a specialist team to deal with this issue.

Anyone had any luck with Vodafone; downgrades/cancellations?

I spoke to Tenon as well, Mobile connections/Dialamobile/Mobilephonesontheweb are all going "daaaaaahhhnnn" (in an eastenders stylee..)

    Hmmmmm.

    Hi,
I have been reading this thread with interest. I currently have two contracts with mobilephonesontheweb.com. One was started on 03/07/2007 and the other on 17/08/2007.

I live in London and so spoke to consumer direct today. We had a long conversation and the following came out of that conversation.

Anyone who bought a phone from dial a mobile in their shop or over the phone, should be ok for the following reason. When you signed up for your contract, you "signed" two contracts. One contract with mobileconnections (or one of their affiliated companies) and another with the network. MC has to send the second contract on to the network for it to work. They didn't, which is why anyone who didn't buy on the internet should be ok.

I did. For those that did, there are a number of issues. When you ticked the boxes agreeing to t and c's, this automatically "signs" one contract with mc and importantly, a second with the network. This is because when you submit that deal, the contract is automatically forwarded to the network, BEFORE you are connected.
So, you have got a contract with the network, which unfortunately is binding.
There are two major issues though. Firstly, I thought one contract was dependent on the other and therefore if one becomes null and void, so should the other.
Secondly, and interestingly, no one seems to have discussed this yet, the networks pay commission to MC for each contract sold. These are usually paid (an insider told me), 120 days after connection. Since the company has gone, I presume we can safely assume that the networks will stop these payments. This means that the networks are GAINING from the company going bankrupt, because not only are they now getting my money, but they are also not paying their commission. This is probably illegal, going against some law passed in 1999 and is the basis of all of the bank charges. i.e. companies shouldn't profit unjustly whilst i'm losing.
For these two reasons, the guy suggested that I take the network to court. He told me that ofcom cannnot enforce anything as I seemingly have a contract, but the only way out is to go through the courts, arguing these two points.

It would obviously help to have a class action suit. Also, does anyone know of any big companies or Martin himself who would be willing to sponsor this, or to offer their services?
