  • i have heard that mobileconnections/ dialamobile have gone bankrupt and they wont be giving out the cash backs. i really woried as i have taken 2 mobiles out with them.

does anyone have any information on this please do let me know
  • Maybe in hind sight I was wrong to say all cashback schemes are a con. But most retailers offer upto 70% cashback . Some retailers such as mobileconnections were offering more than 100% back for each handset. My point being at the rate they were going , it was inevitable that some thing had to give. Cashflow problems start.
Yes, other companies such as CPW offer cashbacks. If you read the different threads, people still have problems whatever the retailer is used. I am aware that they are not expecting 100% compliance, so expect to keep some money back for various reasons.
Even CPW cannot afford to offer 100% cashback on every handset in the shop, as that is suicidal in the commercial sense. This is what this particular retailer was doing. You need to work on margins to stay afloat.
  • This has happened locally to Mobile Connections. Matrix down Alum Rock did the same, you must of been weary when you knew that (assuming you did).

Come on, common sense tells you that you CANNOT get anything for free.

There was a little mention about mobileconnections on working lunch earlier on monday and they are going to do a bigger piece about it on Tuesday's programme. Maybe they will finally get their act together and expose the shady way that these companies operate. I have sent enough emails about non payments of cashbacks to working lunch for them to have conducted a thorough investigation(all probably have been binned sadly).
So for anyone p*ssed off with the likes of mobileshop, phones4u and e2save etc don't miss working lunch today.

It's shocking how big the MobileConnections issue has become. Thought it was a company offering phones only in the Birmingham area, but it seems to have crippled Orange customer services.

Could it be that this is partly Orange's fault for climbing into bed with a very dodgy company. They must have a whole team of accountants who should have pointed out that cash-back schemes are self defeating, and will fail in the end.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • This thread is in danger of going off the rails like the one which was closed down as a result elswhere yesterday. It is pointless to rant and rave and try to apportion blame etc. Saying ALL cashback deals don't work and "you don't get anything for nothing" etc etc is plainly both incorrect and irrelevant to this thread. Those affected would do better to concentrate and finding out more about the status of the companies involved etc. as there is JUST a slim chance it MIGHT not all be doom and gloom - though if it is, as is more likely, running around like headless chickens will make a mockery of you I'm afraid.
  • Hi People,

Just to let you know that I will be on working lunch today as I sent them a email last week about Mobile Connections. I guess that's probably why the rest of you may not have had a reply. Anyway my point today will be to seek to put to pressure on the networks to realease people from there contracts and to expose the fact that they were paying hefty commision to MC to take out all these deals. I know this because I have a man on the inside who told me that Orange and T-mobile stopped the commission payouts because of customer complaints and the thing went pear shaped. Not sure this is 100% true but somewhere in this the networks must accept some responsibility as they must have know about this multiple selling tactics.

Would welcome any feedback on what I should say it's not going live so I need to be as percise as possible.

    Just a thought .....................................

There is a lot of publicity about these cashback deals at the moment - mostly negative and possibly some more of these companies will go bust.
So is it possible to insure about a cashback deal/company going bust, or is it vialble to insure?????????
It would be good if there was some sort of ABTA bond scheme in place to cover these events.

Like I said, it's just a thought, please don't shout at me

  • Sounds like a reasonable approach to me. Whilst I know of NO company now which is totally honest in its cashback dealings I am still against hounding them into non-existence. We all know the risks and have to weigh them up when we decide on who to get one of these deals from etc. Whilst some form of network and consumer protection responsibility is highly desirable I have seen far to many cap-handed politically-motivated dablings in other areas to be totally comfortable with a crusade. There are many other various even more important areas where such intervention has made things a LOT WORSE for the consumer - ME! And no, I DON'T work for or in the industry - I'm just a consumer like the rest of you.
