i didnt have a policy with them.

I didn't have any policies with them either..

I don't think it makes any difference when you call, its just luck where your call is routed to. I got a Scottish call centre at nine at night and the Indian around midday.

    :D
  • Rung again.. Couldnt get any cheaper than 75 for me. Told em to stick it.

He was trying to tell me how top of the range the vans are... dvd players, hot and cold drinks. All i wanted was cheap breakdown cover.

Find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life.
  • Having read the information I decided to join Auto Aid instead of the RAC but when I phoned them they said that they are now part of Equity Red Star Services Ltd not Boncaster insurance group. Does this make a difference?
  • This is a very intresting post to read.
I took out the £36 cover mentioned earlier in this tread.
When the small print came it looked like I was covered for everything aprt from being abroad. No probs. Howver then I read it again as something was niggling me. It states that it will only take me to the nearest garage. Even though on the website it does say tow me home. As my dads a machanic if I broke down id only ever need to be towed home as hes do any work on my car for me FOC
Baically im looking for cover than no matter where in the Uk I am I have the option of no garage please just take me home. The small print on a lot of the cehaper money supermarket ones reads tow to the nearest gagage or home which ever is closer.
Any help would be more than welcome

Before I went with Norwich Union. I had phoned Boncaster and asked them to send me details and T & C, which they mailed OK.
The headings are all on Boncaster headed paper, though it does say at the bottom that they are part of Equity Red Star Group. The costs are still quoted at £29 pounds and when you read the policy it appears to be a good deal.

I went with Norwich Union because there's was cheaper.

    Re- keatergreyhounds query -

Quote from Autoaid policy - "We will refund the cost of taking the vehicle, you and up to 5 passengers to any one place you choose"

No problem, I assumed you were after another policy with a get you home clause.
  • thats what im after just a policy that gives me the option of being anywhere and being towed home. If I break down outside a garage I still want to go home please.
Im with the rac and theyve always brought me home but theyre expensive

Whilst Auto Aid will transport the vehicle, the Ts & Cs state that they won't do this if it can be repaired locally within a reasonable time frame.

I think this is quite reasonable to be honest - if you have a puncture in two tyres, for example, it would be ludicrous to expect to be transported home 100s of miles when you could get two tyres fitted locally.

Similarly, if your car needed a simple (but possibly expensive) repair, that can be done same day where you are, it is not reasonable to be transported home.

We have just had our car transported over 100 miles and have claimed the amount to be refunded by Auto Aid. It is over £300! So you can see why they don't want to pay for transportation if a local repair was possible.

As it was a Sunday afternoon breakdown and the repair took three days, I don't think they can suggest it could have been done locally within a reasonable time frame. But we will wait to see what happens.
