  • It doesn't matter if you get the Indian centre or Scottish call centre. They both will apply the code, I accepted a quote through the indian call centre at 8.30pm and then called again at 9.30pm, got through to the Scottish call centre and it was a quid cheaper :D

ps - the difference between this top level and RAC top level is that Norwich Union will recover you up to 10 miles/nearest garage - RAC will take you ANYWHERE of your choice!

I took up the NUD offer a couple a weeks ago... Rescue, recovery and home start on the wife's corsa should have been £67, but the 'code' got it down to £34. They did say that the code should only be used if you already have NUD motor insurance (which I don't). I said that a friend had been given the same deal without having insurance and they said in that case they had to honour it.

    Happy ;-)
  • Tried NU using the CQM1 today (1 PM) and had a hard time as I didn't have insurance with them. They quoted me for normal car insurance too (10 minutes wasted there) and the Scottish guy told me that when I take out a car insurance policy, only then can they apply the CQM1 code which gets 50% off. He said they MUST have a valid insurance policy number in order to apply the breakdown discount.

Maybe I would have better luck with the Indian call centre, but this guy, although polite and friendly, wasn't having any of it.

are you sure that it does not help with recovery in accident, when i asked on the phone they said its full recovery in accident and breakdown.
    From their website
In the event that you require vehicle recovery following a road traffic accident and
you have fully comprehensive motor insurance with Norwich Union we can
arrange this for you. If you have Third party fire and theft cover with Norwich
Union we can arrange this, but you may be charged for this service. If your
motor insurance is not with Norwich Union and Norwich Union Rescue arrange
recovery for you we will not be responsible for meeting the costs involved, and it
is your responsibility to ensure that you properly comply with any requirements
of your motor insurer in making a claim under your motor insurance policy. If
Norwich Union Rescue agrees to arrange recovery you will be required to pay
Norwich Union Rescue’s or any attending garage’s applicable charges.
    Hope this helps

Yep! I've just had the same problem too!! Just called, got through to the Scottish call centre and the guy applied the code but said it wasnt doing anything so must be an old code, he statred asking asking a few awkward questions about what it was etc. He did offer me the 14 months for the price of 12 though. I might try again later!!!

Now I'm even MORE confused! I received an on line quote for £64.42 a few days ago. As you can see from my last post I called earlier today and that over the phone quote came out at £72.67. I have just called back, got through to the Indian call centre and gave her the on line quote ref and asked her to apply the CQM1 code. She informed me that she cannot amend the on line quote as it already has a 25% discount (due to it being an online quote) and the code wont be as much as that. The difference between the on line quote and the phone quote is £8.25.... how is that a 25% discount??

No, that isn't correct - they both take you anywhere. I have the policy from Norwich Union and the docs in front of me - with the roadside they dump you within 10 miles, recovery they take you anywhere and the onward travel gets you a hire car for 24hrs or a reimbursed trip home/destination by plane train or taxi.

And it's worth pointing out they've recently taken over the RAC :T

Just tried again.... dont know what the everyone has that I havent but they wont apply the code. Just got through to the call centre over here again and gave them the phone quote. The guy asked where I got the code, told him from a friend. He applied the code and it promted him to ask me if I have car insurance with them to which I replied I hadnt. I told him my other friend got it and she doesnt have the insurance but he refused to give it to me! What is everyone's secret please?????!!!! :wall:

Perhaps too many people have been using this code now and they've tightened up their systems to make sure it's only given to people who already have their car insurance with them.

I would be interested to know if anyone else has been successful from now on with this code.
