This is another article of benefit fraud. The scale is huge ....

The root cause of the problem is the system itself that create incentive for people to cheat, the chance of getting caught are low, if getting the sentence is often too light.
Reduce the amount of benefit the people could get, change the benefit system instead of getting cash people should get meal voucher instead, people will witness that the trend will be reversed.
No what would happen then is that petty crime would go through the absolute roof. People need more than a meal to survive and when people are desperate they do what they need to do to get by.0 -

They do care for them, that isn't in dispute but its a fact they became well enough to care/work once ESA stopped and were on IB for years. Are they ill? They are not 100% fit, but were always capable of working as ran a home, looked after children and elderly parents - it for the ones I know provided an income to be a stay at home parent as their partners earn too much for tax credits. One was on HRc, LRM and ESA, more money than she'd get part time (her words).
But fraud is 0.5 so I guess this is a story
Of course they found work, they needed an income!
The fact that the system has potentially forced people who should not be working full time, into work, doesn't mean they are fit to work. How do you know their quality of life is so diminished that all they can do after work is lay in bed, dosed up on meds and desperately trying to find respite from pain?
Do I speak from personal experience? Yes.
ESA ~ Employment SUPPORT Allowance. Not very supportive is it? Perhaps it should be paid for a defined period whilst work fit for the person 'found fit for work' can do?I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
Genuinely disabled people are different they are legally entitle to benefit so they are not benefit cheaters
The problem here is that it is not that easy to differentiate between people who are really in need then those who pretend to. The current system create those incentive for people to cheat.
There are recycling center out there when people who can not effort to buy shoes, clothes. In addition there are charity shops out there collecting second hand items and might give away item for people in need. For utility bill, living in council house where utility bill included will solve the problem.
When I was a student and traveled abroad for holiday, I knew I would be experiencing a good quality of live if I lived in 5***** hotels, but instead I was living in a hostel to share a room with 4-10 other different people because I know I could not effort to pay a deluxe room in 5 star hotel.
When I was a student I know that living in a mansion like those in Kensington garden would give me a good quality of live but instead I was living in a student accommodation where sometimes I could here if my fellow house mate were making love.
I accept inevitability what I could effort and what I could not .....
so because some people try to defraud the system by pretending to be disabled ... all disabled people should be treated as suspicious and be forced to wear second hand shoes and clothes?
i dont know of any council properties that include utilities, but if they do, they wouldnt be covered by housing benefit anyway.
why dont you make it easier and suggest all disabled people are housed in dormatories?
then those who refuse will show themselves to be able to support themselves!
bingo! theres your way to finbd the benefit cheats.... never mind how many disabled/sick people have to suffer to find them.0 -
My wife has ME (Chronic fatigue) and works for free for the CAB one day a week, which means that the next day she is almost incapable of doing anything. If honest about her condition, she might be able to work 4 mornings a week, and spend the afternoon recovering (asleep being a good way). On a good day she can run, jump, do cartwheels, and on a bad day, getting up will tire her so much that she needs to rest for an hour, before she can get downstairs.
But she won't claim benefits, because there was a case locally of a local councillor who was convicted of benefit fraud, him having claimed for ME, and the main body of evidence was a video of him running up the stairs on the way to the council chamber.
So, whilst I would definitely shop someone who I knew to be committing fraud, I would be wary about making an assumption about disability, unless they actually told me they were scamming the system.0 -

This is the problem when bloggers source information from the Daily Mail and Express, stupid people use those statistics as 'proof'.
"Cases of overpayment soared to 499,204 in 2009/10 compared with 439,966 the year before.
But only a tiny number of the fraudsters are taken to court. In 2009/10, just 7,765 cases led to prosecutions compared with 8,701 in 2008/9."
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1318978/The-rise-Shameless-generation-drop-court-cases-Labour-government.html
What the Daily Mail fails to state is that in cases of overpayment, that overpayment is often due to error on behalf of DWP employees. It is not always the case that an overpayment is the result of a fraudulent claim, in fact, less money is lost to benefit fraud than is lost to error.0 -

I have concerns about threads like this, the OP starts a thread about naughty benefit cheats, asks advice then total abandons it. It keeps the pot nicely simmering. I may be wrong but it just seem's strange.0

I am also considering reporting someone for benefit fraud but am concerned it's not her but the system at fault.
I have known this lady for over 10 years, she lives alone with a 10 year old daughter, has never worked, drives a sporty BMW which she got 3 years ago as she is now apparently entitled to higher rate DLA ( can see no issues with her mobility) and enjoys regular holidays to Jamaica, USA and southern Spain. Her home is rented from a housing association for which she gets housing benefit, is immaculately decorated and her daughter, whilst getting free meals and equipment from school, has the latest clothes from Next and top of the range ipad and iphone. She is clearly getting money from somewhere and rumour has it she gets sent regular income from her daughter's father who lives abroad.
I work hard as a staff nurse and have none of these things and my kids have to make do. I'm not jealous, just angry if the "system" allows for this. To report or not - that is the question ??0 -

Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

How the hell do people know so much about their neighbours, if you feel she is cheating the system do it, report her, as she deserves all she gets. But please make sure it is all factual and not just speculative rumours.0
