i reported someone for benefit fraud today,
they are claiming disability benefit and have lied on forms to make it seem worse
they are also getting carer's allowance when she does not need caring for at all.
but she has told me she is getting a lifetime DLA award does that matter ??
what will happen now?
will they investigate ??
will she be called in or something ?
i do feel bad for doing it but i don't think that it is fair
how long does it usually take for it to be investigated?

1. Importantly - don't feel bad about it. I'm surprised that someone who is fiddling is so open telling you about the forms and carers allowance ?
2. Google ''lifetime etc'' and read about what it actually means.
3. Investigation ? IF their pile is not too high then they may well send out a standard questionnaire asking if there are any changes. From that and their own records they may then decide to act and arrange a chat and/or watch and learn. First thing you'll know is probably a very angry neighbour and that could take weeks.
4. Its not fair - you're right!!!!0 -

You will be surprised at the number of people committing fraud who boast to their friends and neighbours about what they are doing. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
Agree with Housing Benefit Officer, many people are proud of the fact that they have 'got one over' on 'the system' and therefore boast about it, becasue they assume everybody thinks like that.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I agree. I used to do voluntary work for a charity and almost by accident got to hear of many benefit cheats getting caught after being turned in by friends or even relatives.
One lady I was working with on an unrelated matter had been turned in by a sister in law as she was working two jobs and going to Clacton to a caravan for a week and just got tired of hearing the benefit cheat boasting about how all her benefits and her part time 'cash in hand' work and everything was paying for a trip to Disneyland.
The sister in law admitted she had done it after a particularly fraught Sunday dinner when her own children were in tears after being taunted by their cousins that they weren't going to see Mickey Mouse like they were.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I would not report anyone I suspected of benefit fraud for disability reasons. What you have not said is how they are committing fraud.
I would hesitate because not all disabilities in early stages are obvious
to the eye.
Malicious reports happen all the time. Some people have things like MS in early stages or spinal injuries even cancer that may take a couple of years for them to die but are nevertheless terminal illnesses which allow them to claim certain dla.
I would never be so cruel as to report someone without knowing their medical conditions and if they are terminally ill or suffering from a wasting disease.
If someone has such a condition then all you call will do will make you look malicious. Which is sad and the truth is you haven't mentioned why they receive it. Why do they receive the dla benefit?0 -
It's not made easier when many in society don't advocate reporting. On threads like this I'd say 3/4 normally tell you not to report, mind your own business etc.
We all know people who lie (or must do) on their forms, problem is they fooled doctors and ATOS. A school mum won her tribunal for HRC / HRM as she has such a bad back and is so weak from her ME.
Walks her dog every day, last year won the egg and spoon race, I saw her climb a climbing frame to get her boy down when stuck.
I have reported. Nothing done, I was thinking of recording her at this sports day and sending it in. She also lives with her fianc! but as his legal address is his mums its pointless.
I hope they deal with your report.0 -

I think the op knows the person she is talking about. I do not think she is being malicious or cruel at all.
If the person claiming has done nothing wrong her benefit will not change.0 -

It's not malicious - if people are honest and their form states on a good day (5/7), I can shop walk etc then they should ignore a report that they were seen shopping. If however they state they can never leave their home or can only walk under 20 metres yet walk miles daily they are lying. How cruel to report benefit thieves?0 -
And how do they know what was written on another persons form? Do they live with them to have such intimate knowledge of not only their condition but their claim?0

Doesn't matter. The person dealing with the complaint knows what they wrote on the form. They look at inconsistencies.0
