74jax may I just say that reading this thread has been like a breath of fresh air this morning. It is so nice to read something positive on here. The way you describe your relationship with your husband and the connection you two have is just lovely.

Aw thanks :o We do have a wonderful relationship (although 4 weeks into marriage you'd hope so :rotfl:) Although i've just read it back and am laughing I actually wrote that I like things made from around the house and I get him to name an item of food and I cook a meal from it :rotfl:.....
I hate birthdays but I'm a woman! One of my friends died on my 11th birthday and its never been a day any of my friends have been good at celebrating since. I'm too used to it being an awful day that I am much happier with no attention on the day and just going for lunch or getting a take away! I really don't like presents generally either though, I hate the surprise and being the center of attention :(

Wow, that made me take stock of what I'm complaining about. i'm so sorry.

Mine's the same. The only things he does wants he buys for himself before anyone else gets a chance (despite me and his mum telling him off about that lol).

That's it!!! Exactly! My hubby has known i'll be looking for a present and he 'claims' he doesn't want anything...... last night I had a text - will be home a little later than usual, off to see about some alloys...................

(wimpers in the corner..........) I could have bought an alloy (notice just one, as my budget isn't THAT generous)......:rotfl:

I'm another one who isn't really into presents. I know I'm a nightmare for my family, but I'm honestly happy with what I already have! Luckily DH isn't much of a present-buyer, or surprise-organiser, so it doesn't really matter.

We do however treat ourselves when we want to: If we're out and about and see a fabulous tea room - we go in and have tea and cakes, or spend £50 seeing a show at the local theatre. Or we'll go out for dinner with our grown-up children plus partners and our elderly mums and we'll pay the bill...just because we want to. Not buying each other birthday or Christmas presents gives us plenty of excuse for indulging ourselves in these little extravagances!:)

Totally! The only idea I had was for some bike cleaner thing (dull I know but he'd mentioned it) so predictably he came home with it on sunday.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm a long standing husband who feels the same way, so I think I qualify to answer this one.

Anything my Wife buys me is what she thinks I'll like, not what I'd actually like to receive or would buy myself. As a good husband I smile and say the right things and then never actually use anything she's got me. Eventually she worked this out and said that she'd prefer to give me some small cheap gifts and some cash to buy what I wanted.

    Perfect.

Last Birthday I didn't receive any ridiculous "experiences", no attempts at her trying to dress me, no specialist tools that I won't use, or another million candle power torch etc etc. Instead I got a few £ that I put towards a petrol strimmer and I'm happy as larry, and so is she.

Just one question, why do any of you buy those "experience" days anyway? I don't know of one bloke who'd ever purposely go out and buy one of any kind. They're an utter ripoff and we all know it.

Give your man some cash and see what he does with it.

I'm laughing as I actually think you're my husband writing that!

I would feel very very strange giving him money, he doesn't spend it. His mum gives him cheques every birthday and christmas and he doesn't cash any, surely she must know that they don't go out of the bank........

I hope this suggestion isn't inappropriate, but seeing as you are young and newly wed....is there any way you could go down the bedroom route? :o I.e., buy something for you to wear, but that is actually for him. Maybe there is something he likes but you think would be too tacky for words (I'm thinking schoolgirl/nurse/cheerleader etc) or just some extremely beautiful lingerie. You can do a room up with candles, soft music, be all dressed up and give him a massage with scented oils - just pamper him and make it all about him.

I know, I know, you are either going to respond 'he would hate that' or 'we do that every Wednesday, I have three wardrobes full of saucy outfits already' !! :p :rotfl:

I don't know. It sounds like a nightmare. My husband is quite difficult to buy for but he does like presents and I always sort something out in the end. I love making a big fuss of birthdays and Christmas and I'm lucky that he does too. I would feel really frustrated as well in your situation :(

Do some homemade voucher type things, then he can cash them in as and when.

Eg. you'll take the rubbish out, wax his surf board for a month, a massage, something he really hates to do himself, er.. sexual favours (I would be quite specific here though or he might have you doing all sorts.. or maybe thats your thing!

Personal, practically free and I am sure he'll appreciate it more because there is some thought gone into it.

I've done this, but he either throws them out or they're left around and get ripped etc. He's just not fussed.
