Update on the 'free' boilers, yesterday the big six have released funding for about 2000 boilers. But they are only paying about £800 to the installer which obviously is just going to pay for the boiler and nothing else.
So if your desperate for a new boiler and are happy to pay for the fitting this could be an option for you, otherwise it's probably going to be July for a completely free boiler."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -

Sorry you had a fruitless phone call with us roobarbski. Thought it might help if I gave you a bit of information about our boiler replacement scheme.
Applications for boiler replacements and other energy saving schemes under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) are looked after by a specialist team. These are the guys to speak to (contact details are on our website on the ECO page).
With schemes like ECO, also known as Affordable Warmth, all applications are considered individually.
Generally, under this scheme, if a boiler is broken or faulty we'll look to either replace or repair it. This is provided the boiler is over 8 years old and the applicant is eligible under the terms of the scheme. Details of eligibility can also be found on the same part of our website.
Applicants need to be living in privately owned or privately rented accommodation too.
The outcome will be subject to a Gas Safe engineer looking at the boiler and will be checked in line with Ofgem guidelines.
Please be aware, an assessment doesn't automatically mean the boiler will be replaced.
If successful, there may be extra costs to pay for things like new pipework. We'll let you know in advance if this is the case.
Sorry again we weren't able to help when you called but hope this is of interest.

I have just spoken to EON who advised that they wouldn't do anything for an inefficient boiler, it had to be faulty or broken.
This seems to be confirmed by the EON representatives post above.
Why isn't this mentioned in the first place? MSE's original post inferred an inefficient boiler would be replaced?OD [STRIKE] £2600 [/STRIKE] £0 :j Loan [STRIKE]£9500.00[/STRIKE] £0 :j Car [STRIKE]£3150[/STRIKE] £0 :j Moving Costs [STRIKE]£1300[/STRIKE] £0 :j Savings £1150 :j

Because it's not true
Any boiler less that 86% efficient is eligible for the scheme! this essentially any non condensing boiler.
EON may have different criteria within the guidelines of ECO, but this not the case across the board.
(Broken boilers are given an uplifted score through the scheme so this means they can deliver there obligations by doing less work)
You don't Have to go to your energy supplier to get this scheme you can go to any green deal installer and receive a free installation
If you have an old non condensing boiler you will qualify for a new boiler through ECO.
I know this because my company has fitted 1000+ Free boilers through this scheme over the past 18 months."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -

My boiler is a back boiler, would that qualify as a non-condensing boiler (excuse my ignorance)?
If it does, do you think I should just contact another supplier? EON aren't my current supplier, they were just one of the companies on the list given to us.OD [STRIKE] £2600 [/STRIKE] £0 :j Loan [STRIKE]£9500.00[/STRIKE] £0 :j Car [STRIKE]£3150[/STRIKE] £0 :j Moving Costs [STRIKE]£1300[/STRIKE] £0 :j Savings £1150 :j

If you look here and enter your postcode you will be able to find companies that operate in your area.
All companies on the list will be able to offer you a boiler through the scheme.
Yes a back boiler would qualify and will be a non condensing boiler.
Replacing a back boiler with a modern boiler requires a lot of work so expect to have to make a contribution, as it will require upgrading your whole heating system where as the grant only pays for the installation of a new boiler.
Also don't expect for the boiler to be installed until July due to internal reasons of how the scheme works.
Hope this helps."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction. I have been trying to get funding for solid wall insulation since September last year. Left details with various company's who all said new funding available in April 14. Had some call backs but all said no funding available but were quite happy to come out and give me a quote for getting it done.
So anyone know of were I can apply for funding from or at least try.
Thanks in advance0 -

The April date is a date the government told installers under this scheme new funding would be released this never happened and still hasn't happened.... We have now been told mid July so fingers crossed it will happen.
For what you want to do there are three options available to you.
1.ECO funding this may cover the full cost of your installation depending on the amount of carbon fitting the insulation will save in your house as the installer is paid a price per unit of carbon saved so this varies from house to house and the current price being paid per unit.
2. Green deal Cashback this will pay 50% of your contribution up to £4000
3. Coming in the next couple of weeks, home improvement fund this will give you 75% of your contribution up to £6000 + £100 for the assessment and another £500 if you've bought the house in the last 12 months.
You cannot mix these so you have to pick one and all of these options above only a Green Deal Installer or provider company can offer you. So if you search for the green deal participants register and on here you can enter your postcode this should show a list of all companies that operate in your area and they should be able to help you."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Thanks for the info.........I have been through the online application via Eon's ECO page several times over the past months and it just spits out the application at the end and says phone us.....giving an "unrecognized" phone number.....0300 400 1188??
The energy saving advice service arranged for Eon to phone us, which they did, leaving a message asking for us to phone their Eco Team ......and that's where we got stuck, as Eon seem incapable of letting us talk to the ECO Team....and it takes ages just to get through....I mean ages!!!
On my last attempt to make contact, Eon Customer Services put me through to a company that sells boilers? And then they just transferred my call back to the very start of the contact loop... which again takes around 15-20 mins to get through! At this point we ran out of patience and gave up!!!0
