Thanks for the info.........I have been through the online application via Eon's ECO page several times over the past months and it just spits out the application at the end and says phone us.....giving an "unrecognized" phone number.....0300 400 1188??
The energy saving advice service arranged for Eon to phone us, which they did, leaving a message asking for us to phone their Eco Team ......and that's where we got stuck, as Eon seem incapable of letting us talk to the ECO Team....and it takes ages just to get through....I mean ages!!!
On my last attempt to make contact, Eon Customer Services put me through to a company that sells boilers? And then they just transferred my call back to the very start of the contact loop... which again takes around 15-20 mins to get through! At this point we ran out of patience and gave up!!!

Don't go to EON or any of the big six, they are a complete waste of time you just end up speaking to some admin person who doesn't know anything about the scheme and just go through questions that pop up on the screen and you inevitably get the 'computer says no' or just go round in circles.

Click here and enter your postcode there are 1314 companies that can offer the solid wall insulation through the scheme and I can pretty much guarantee you will get better service by contacting a local company on that list than any of the big six.

I am still waiting for an answer of MSE why they are only promoting the big six for this scheme, maybe they have a vested interest but that is a different issue.....

Most small/medium companies mine included, can usually start the work within four weeks of the customer making the initial application.

  • I have been applying for a new boiler for my mother in law since last October, firstly through a local company which has never had the funding due to their agent not receiving funding. I have written to her MP and he to the minister, but to no avail to date. I reapplied to SSE, her supplier some 6 to 8 weeks ago, they said a surveyor would come in a few weeks time, but nothing so far. She is 99 years old and her back boiler makes the most awful noises, I cannot see it lasting long.

There is funding available at the moment but it is only paying around £800 for a new boiler to be fitted.

Unfortunately nothing is likely to happen until mid July in regards to ECO to fully fund for a new boiler, I understand that you must be very desperate to get a new boiler fitted.

You should also be aware that when ECO funding is released again it is still unlikely that the new installation will be completely free with it replacing a back boiler as this is a big job and the grant unfortunately does not cover the full cost of this work so a contribution is likely to be needed to complete the work from who ever you get to do the work as we all get paid the same amount.

If you are desperate you could contact your local installer again and ask what funding they can get (but its only going to be about £800) and then bridge the gap yourself as waiting until July could be a bit worrying if the boiler is on its last legs.

Hi, I have just been offered a free boiler with SSE (Glow worm Betacom 28) . Being installed in the next 2 weeks. The process has been really easy; I emailed SSE after finding the info on Martin's website, they called me to check if I would be eligible, they told me I was. They then said it could take up to 12 weeks to hear back, however I only waited 4 weeks. They sent an assessor out who took photos of my boiler, property etc. A week later a technical surveyor came out to check the boiler and my pipes etc . New one being fitted shortly and it is not costing me a single penny. Thanks Martin!

The April date is a date the government told installers under this scheme new funding would be released this never happened and still hasn't happened.... We have now been told mid July so fingers crossed it will happen.

For what you want to do there are three options available to you.

1.ECO funding this may cover the full cost of your installation depending on the amount of carbon fitting the insulation will save in your house as the installer is paid a price per unit of carbon saved so this varies from house to house and the current price being paid per unit.

    2. Green deal Cashback this will pay 50% of your contribution up to £4000

    3. Coming in the next couple of weeks, home improvement fund this will give you 75% of your contribution up to £6000 + £100 for the assessment and another £500 if you've bought the house in the last 12 months.

You cannot mix these so you have to pick one and all of these options above only a Green Deal Installer or provider company can offer you. So if you search for the green deal participants register and on here you can enter your postcode this should show a list of all companies that operate in your area and they should be able to help you.

    Many thanks for your help

    Hi roobarbski

I'm really sorry you've had so many problems talking to our ECO team.

The number you've quoted isn't right, I'm afraid. Contact details are on the 'Saving Energy' section of our website. They're in the FAQs on the 'Energy Saving Home Improvements' page.

Our ECO team's available Mondays to Fridays between 9am and 5pm.

    Sorry again for the difficulties.

Contacted BG about their free installation offer 21/05/2014 and was advised that they where busy in my area but that someone would contact me in a week to confirm appointment. Phoned up this morning only to be advised that earliest appointment was for 30/10/2014. Bit different to a call back in a week. Have accepted the appointment but the contact has said that she will ask if a cancellation can be arranged earlier.
Also requested that she inform her management that I am not happy with the information and requested a call back to explain Will advise if and when I get a reply. :(:(

I live in Scotland. SSE are fitting my new boiler: Glow worm Betacom 28 in the next 2 weeks. I found out about this through Martin's website and emailed all the different companies. In the end, SSE said I qualify and I had the first survey after 4 weeks. A week later I had a technical survey and the guy told me my new boiler will be fitted shortly and it won't cost me a single penny. I am so pleased. Thank you Martin Lewis :)

I have been trying to get a free boiler since March, e.on are driving me crazy, I've had 3 appointments each with excuses, I qualify but I keep getting conflicting information. I am getting quite frustrated

I've tried the big six, one told me they are not partaking.
SSE said they wouldn't do it as it's a back boiler
Edf haven't replied, can I go direct to the companies who fit?

A big thanks to all the comp posters for their effort
