Hi. It would be useful if you added to your info on cavity wall insulation that properties built after 1983 were excluded. We have fallen foul of this so I've posted a note to ask if there is anyone who knows of any companies that don't apply this rule. By the way it has been vey difficult to get any companies to quote for us when we say we don't qualify and want to pay!!
A house that is built after that date would be assumed to have insulation already so you wouldn't need it . Do you have a house built after that date that doesn't have cavity wall insulation?"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Just received a phone call regarding the "Free" cavity wall insulation. A complete waste of time and had the phone put down on me my the scottish lady on the other end as she appeared dis-interested. Very rude and a complete waste of my time in applying.0

Bit confused, do you want insulation or dont want insulation?
Did you apply and they didnt help
or they cold called you out the blue?
If you want the insulation, there are a large number of companies who can offer you the free insulation and fit it for you and you should be able to find a good local firm by searching on the green deal participants register."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Got a call back from BG within 24 hours about my insulation. Well done to them even though the lad had a strong scottish accent and I had to listen carefully. We dont qualify as we have vertical tiles on some walls but was impressed with the speed in which they contacted us.Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

I wish whoever on this website posts the tips would check out the information they post is correct
I applied to british gas for cavity wall insulation I have a 13 year old house with a cavity. I was told by British gas my house did not qualify as it was not built before 1983 so so much for the website info which is incorrect. Could anyone else confirm this is true
Thanks in advance0 -

Try a different company, it will be assumed that your house will have insulation already fitted because of the age but this may not be the case so you need a bore hole survey to confirm whether you qualify or not.
British gas won't 'waste there time' checking so if you find a good local firm they should come out and check for you. You can use any green deal installer to get the free insulation fitted."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
My property - a bungalow - was constructed in the mid 60's with a steel frame structure. There is a substantial cavity with brick outer.Your guidance does not seem to cover this type of property - is it suitable for cavity insulation?

With your house being an unusual buid It's difficult to give an accurate answer with out seeing the property but In this scheme there are three categories off wall which are covered, normal cavity wall, hard to treat cavity wall and solid wall .
Your house should fall into one of those categories, I would avoid the big companies because anything not the norm they will just avoid it. Try and find a local installer on the green deal participants register and they should be able to get the insulation fitted for free for you or maybe a small cost due to the unusual installation"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -

A few weeks later we had a letter from the Energy Saving Advice Service saying that we didn't qualify - after a quick call to them they agreed that we did qualify and that British Gas would surely make contact soon - which they did, promising that a surveyor would call us to make an appointment.
Now, some 5 weeks later, British Gas have just called us.. blaming the government for changing the "rules" and advising that we did not now qualify for any help with a new boiler!
We are now back to square one! I don't know if I should try again for this "free help" - or start looking elsewhere for something that we can't afford but desperately need, along with the associated risks of a low cost solution?
Tried again with Eon this time......what a hopeless bunch, over 30 mins on the phone to get absolutely nowhere........I will never use them ever again! Aaaaargh! Still no boiler!0 -

As I have said earlier, nothing is really going to happen regarding free boilers until the outcome of this consultation is released which should be before mid July."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0
